Ever Justify Discrepancies with Imagination?

Ever ask yourself why Reach had DMRs and Earth had BRs? Well that one’s easy. The UNSC higher-ups on each planet decided to go with different weapons. It happens.

What about why there are no Brute shots on Reach? I just pretend the Brute cruisers from which those Brutes came accidentally received a shipment of Concussion Rifles and they just went with it.

In fact, I use that sort of made-up logic a lot; why is Reach loaded with DMRs but not one is to be found on the Autumn? Well, in my mind, there were DRMs on the Autumn, they were just pulled to resupply soldiers on the field while the Autumn was still on Reach. Same goes for every gun the UNSC had on Reach but not in Combat Evolved. The ARs were different because the 60 round AR was a special Naval model right? It stayed on the Autumn.

Here’s another big one: Why, when Chief was on Earth during Halo 2 there were no Assault Rifles to be found, but when he came back to Earth a few months later in Halo 3 the place was covered in them?
I Chaulk that up to simply Cairo Station and In Amber Clad weren’t supplied with ARs, so Chief and his marine buddies just didn’t have any at the time. Other marines on Earth did, it’s just a coincidence that he never happened upon one until he returned.

THE WORST ONE YET … why can the M6H magnum that my Halo 4 visual guide tells me wasn’t used until 2555 be found laying right outside of Chief’s cryotube on the Forward Unto Dawn that has been lost in space since 2553?
I know they’re obviously not going to put one Halo 3 magnum in the beginning of Halo 4 just so it makes sense, but I’ve always come up with little reasons to justify minor discrepancies in the series. I find it fun when I come up with one that works out logically in my mind even if it’s never cannonically explained.

You guys ever do that?

Avast! Here comes the storm of canon buffs! Hold fast!
But seriously, prepare for the outrage at you not knowing about the BR was in production until 255_.

But why yes I do! Developers have to cut corners every little while at the cost of canon, so it’s nice to fill in the gaps yourself.

To be honest, that’s how I learn this stuff. I love the games and they only tell a small part of the story, so the gaps I have filled in by you guys.
I’m a huge fan of classic literature and every time I crack a Halo novel I find myself torn between a great interest in the subject matter and having to endure something that (and this is purely opinion) is just bad writing.
I mean, it’s not terrible, but it’s no Hemingway or Dumas.
I will read them eventually, though. I’m not saying they’re bad books, they’re just not my cup of tea.
I did just get the Halo Encyclopedea which is great.

Or they didn’t come across them. There are so many weapons that haven’t been seen that exist.

> Ever ask yourself why Reach had DMRs and Earth had BRs? Well that one’s easy. The UNSC higher-ups on each planet decided to go with different weapons. It happens.

The M392 DMR was originally the premiere service rifle in the UNSC. However, when the BR55 and BR55HBSR started ramping up in production, it was highly favored by the UNSC, where it replaced the DMR in all branches but the Army. In the original trilogy, you’re only ever with the Marines and Navy, meaning you won’t be seeing DMRs. Reach on the other hand has you with the Army who still uses the M392 DMR.

The M395 DMR must have made significant advancements over its predecessor that put it back on the market.

> What about why there are no Brute shots on Reach? I just pretend the Brute cruisers from which those Brutes came accidentally received a shipment of Concussion Rifles and they just went with it.

Most likely gameplay redundancy having a Brute Shot would have caused. A Brute would only be using a Concussion Rifle if he found it on the ground or killed an Elite. Concussion Rifles are a Sangheili heirloom. While the appearance of the weapon has changed vastly over time, it’s firing mechanism and function has not.

There probably were DMRs on the ship brought aboard by UNSC Army evacuees. We probably never saw them though as they were presumably given MA5Bs after being conscripted into the Autumn’s crew.

This is most likely what happened. Joseph Staten made a good point back in 2009 by pointing out that the UNSC is an interstellar civilization spanning tens of light years. The logistics of equally distributing equipment across such a civilization would be very difficult.

Reread the Magnum’s page in the Visual Guide. The M6H was used just in 2555 and beyond.

The M6H has existed for a long time. The reason why it’s in abundance as of 2558 is because 2555 marked the year where the M6H became the UNSC’s standard post war-era sidearm.

You’re right about that magnum … I had just gotten the book for Christmas and was scanning through

No i dont.
When i buy a product i expect a complete product, it’s their job to make stuff work.

I give them leeway on coming up with an answer but if they dont then that’s an error.

Fanwank canon means nothing to anyone but the person who made it up so that’s pretty much a waste of time.
