Nope. It’s not player first at all when 60% of your F2P Battlepass is catered to bandaiding the flawed challenge system. This isn’t Player first, never have been.
I think the Devs really planned to make it player first, but feels like someone walked in and forced them to change it.
Alright, I agree the challenge system is FAR from perfect. I would prefer earning XP or credits from playing well in games instead of having to focus on random things like back smacks. Plus a bit of random XP. A bit how Halo Reach worked.
So it sucks that the battle passes can only be unlocked through challenges and playing certain amount of games each day, but the fact that battle passes never expire is a great addition to the game, that as far as I can remember never happened in other FPS games that have Battle Passes. I know there where times in Destiny 2 and CoD where I had to work my *ss off in certain weekends to finish the battle pass. Which wasn’t fun at all.
Here’s the entire problem and sitch with what the players were expecting and what 343 thinks would have worked.
What players expected and wanted: Literally 1 to 1 copy of Reach’s progression system
This is a huge kicker because this means there is very little left to monetize, and in a f2p game? Ouch. Yea this was never gonna happen.
What 343 thought would have worked: Selling all armors with Credits (bought) and unlocking through free play and Events. Extra monetization in the form of Challenge Swaps and XP boosts.
Obviously this didn’t work because look what happened now.
Here’s the best compromise between the both:
Fan favourite permutations and accessories baked into achievement unlocks
Event earns Credits, making Events draw a huge amount of players back every time
Selling armor with Credits in the store
Remove Challenge Swaps entirely, and streamline Battlepass to be a Token system. Players earn 1 Token upon ranking up, and 1 Token per Challenge. 10 Challenges weekly. Make it simple, make it easy.
Instead of Challenge Swaps, offer a Challenge Reset for those who want to pay to progress.
Wouldn’t need swaps if everyone had the same daily/weekly challenges like MCC. It would be fair, and allow friends to work on challenges together. Crazy idea, I know. Unfortunately, against 343’s insisting that challenges aren’t intentionally terrible to force people to buy swaps, I disagree, because that’s exactly what swaps exist for. You wouldn’t need to skip challenges if they weren’t terrible, and you wouldn’t need to skip challenges if everybody had the same challenges in a list, instead of unlocking only four at a time. The challenge system is intentionally malicious to make money
No game should ever have the progression system based around XP earned in challenges. No game should ever have the only progression system being solely a BP. Whoever thought of this needs sacking. Simple as that.
I doubt it’s “never again” as it seems stuff rotates back around sooner or later. There has been very very few cosmetics that has been a one and done offering. Just have patience and odds are it will be available again.
I don’t think weekly rewards are gonna be never again. Probably will be a very long time before we see a repeat weekly reward, but I don’t think there’s any particular reason they’d never pop up as a repeat weekly reward at some point. Events? I think the plan for the Fractures events is that each one is specific to the season they’re part of and will always be that way. So in a few years time if you see someone wearing the Yoroi armor core you know that’s someone that played the game during the game’s early days. At least that’s the impression I have. I don’t know if the plan is the same for the other events like Tactical Ops or Cyber Showdown.
Tbh I fear they may pull a FF14 and sell old Event items for Credits while introducing new cosmetics every repeat Event.
This indirectly “rewards” those who participated when the Event was around and also lets them earn new cosmetics every repeat, while those who snoozed have to buy old stuff with cash.
That’s how SE did it in FF14, it’s not so hard to believe that 343 won’t do the same.
The main difference is FF14 has tons of customizations not FOMO gated while almost everything Infinite has is FOMO gated.
@GusTank04 don’t bait react me like I’m somehow wrong, it’s not definitive and you know it.
It has just as much chance of being a “yes” as it does being a “no” based purely on subjective interpretation of the statement/who’s telling you.
It’s vague to begin with on 343’s part which certainly doesn’t help, and purposefully (dare I say maliciously) misleading at worst to assign your own interpretation as an official factual statement.
I didn’t bait react your post. I fumble reacted your post which is far more appropriate given your adamant stance on peddling personal interpretation as definitive truth (thus acting as misinformation) and suggesting I’m baiting by calling you out on it.
It’s not a definitive answer, and you’re taking advantage of that to push a narrative like it’s gospel. At least denote that you’re not certain, and that it’s merely an interpretation rather than peddling overt interpreted misinformation disguised as definitive fact.
You do realize what a limited time event is, right? Limited time, they come for a limited time and then they are gone.
You are literally on the forums every single fricking day defending them like they’re your savior and then have the nerve to tell other people that they are “taking advantage of something to push a narrative”
And where’s the statement defining what that means in the context of this title?
We have no idea if “limited time event” is for the entire lifespan of this game, or within a set period of time that resets at a certain point.
Plenty of games feature “limited time events” that are on an annual rotation and some games feature “limited time events” that will never return again. Short of an actual definitive answer saying “Tac Ops/Cyber Showdown will not make another appearance, you’re SOL if you missed this” it’s very much speculation that it will/won’t return.
It’s basically Schrödinger’s Event, only time will tell at this point if you’re right.
Your confirmation bias is showing.
I called you out for passing personal interpretation as fact in the same sentence I scrutinized 343 for being vague, something 343 has gotten all too comfortable doing to the detriment of what little credibility they have left.
I have an eclectic scattering of standings on various topics and discussions, some rooted in subjectiveness, some rooted in objectiveness, some asking questions or offering perspective, and some admittedly playing devil’s advocate in some cases because it’s rather boring to look through what appears as overtly anticipated “NPC” responses to certain subject matters so I might as well spice it up a little and stoke some dialogue.
I have as much criticism of the company as I do defense, much like I have criticism of my peers as I do defense of them. I’ve agreed and disagreed with you much like you’ve agreed and disagreed with me, don’t act like I’m somehow the bad guy here. Stop seeing what you want to see, and see what is.
That works good in a loot box type system like Overwatch where your rewards are always random but I think people who spent the time earning it should get exclusivity of the rewards for the life of the game.
