I think the main underlying point here is that even though the commando is good to some degree, it could be slightly better.

At least that’s what I think. It’s not like I’m incapable of using the commando. I can, it’s just not as fun or crisp to use compared to something like a BR or an AR.

The required thumb work is a bit to much.

Did I miss something? The DMR is coming back to Halo Infinite?

It’s in the files and looks like it’s one of the first set of weapons coming back to the game.

I believe the Falcon is also in the files as well, so we may get another flying vehicle that can support carrying teammates too. This is the thing I’m interested in. But to be truthful, it seems like a fitting weapon to bring back to Halo Infinite just because of the inclusion of 4 player coop, since this vehicle can carry up to at least 4 Spartans.

Commando was decent in the beta, but got nerfed to hell in the final release. Even now it’s garbage compared to what it once was.
As for the DMR, I just hope they replace the weapon in the Carter-stance from Season 1, as Carter was supposed to carry a DMR in the first place.

The only gun of the three of those that is just better is the BR. The Commando is a better gun at mid range than a plethora of other weapons including the sidekick & AR.

I probably got 50+ commando kills tonight alone from grinding last spartan standing. I don’t get what people don’t like about it.

It’s generally not as easy to use as the battle rifle was always my speculation.

Its because the DMR theoretically fill the space adjacent to the BR that the commando fails to do.

Its the Medium to Longish range precision weapon that doesn’t suffer damage fallout from short to medium range.

Its at that point you’re better off using the Sidekick pistol because it has the exact same effective range, a lower TTK, better bloom control, pulls up faster when switching weapons, and has a faster reload.

A couple other things that makes the commando pretty awful is that…
The Full Auto fire is utterly pointless, you get better accuracy and bloom control tap firing.
And if you tap fire you actually shoot FASTER than holding down the button.

Which, again.
Why would you ever use the commandos Auto Fire then you have the overly useful Assault Rifle?

The commando is an objective failure of a weapon.
It does everything that the Sidekick pistol, The AR, and the BR does, but worse in every possible way.

The Reintroduction of the DMR would completely over shadow it,
Having the Kill potential of a BR, while maintaining the range of a real precision weapon, while also still being viable in Mid/Shot range fights.

Filling the Role of a weapon somewhere between BR and Sniper Rifle,
Instead of the Commando that Fills the Role Between the AR and BR.

And there is the core of the problem,

No one, and I mean NO ONE really wants to fight at mid range.
Why would you? Like, it would seriously be brain dead tactics.

You get into close range because Brawling range is where Halo really shines in its combat.
1-2 Tapping or Combo Tapping is ridiculously strong.

And, likewise
If you’re not rocking weapons that are good at Close range, you’re going to want to sit are Long range.
And, at the range you literally just want the BR. Or other Longer range precision weapons.

Mid range is not ideal fighting conditions even if you’re using the commando.
Needler is a dangerous Short to Mid range weapon,
Plasma Pistol is a dangerous noob combo,
The AR will still be on par, if not dominate the Commando,
A person using a Sword will be able to close the distance instantly if their using movement Tech,
And the Commando can’t Melee Trade with the sword like the Mangler can.

Realistically, the commando fits an Niche that is already at a heavy disadvantage because of the nature of play and the sandbox. Players will gravitate towards either extreme, just because they both offer greater advantages being at Close/Far range, rather than hovering at mid range.

I hope they rework the Commando in a way it resembles the Carbine more:

  • Remove the full auto function.
  • Remove the horrible insane recoil.
  • Up the mag size a bit.

A lot of speculation on how the addition of the “BANDIT” rifle will affect the sandbox. We don’t know if you will even be able to zoom in with the “BANDIT” rifle.

I do hope that it is hitscan and a more viable option for mnk players than using a BR.

You say ALL of that as if you’re never in traversal. Where do, especially on BTB maps - Most players meet? Mid range.

And, let’s clarify what that means because a Needles certainly doesn’t function at that range. It’s a close range weapon, not a melee weapon sure but it operates in a similar range as a Mangler.

The Commando has a far greater range than the Sidekick, and can sometimes take out a BR user.

The Commando isn’t a failure of a weapon, it’s perfectly fine as is. Perhaps it’ll require some tuning when the Bandit arrives. But aside from that, it sounds like you’re just using it wrong.

Commando slaughters noobs for breakfast. It’s no match for the Battle Rifle but decimates the AR and Sidekick by skilled players and has a higher skill gap then both. If you space out your full auto body shots it devours shields and even health.

Bandit Rifle/DMR will be better, but the DMR with a Commando secondary will be a God tier combo in the right hands. Long range and short range optimal power at any range. Slight buff to the Commando, it will dominate.

I try to pick it up to put shots on people. I’m not sure if I just don’t utilize it correctly or not, but it’s just different compared to the BR.

BtB is an utterly Joke, and doesn’t really have any proper balancing outside of Victory by Numbers.
Skill stops being a factor in individual guns when you’re rolling around with a Massive team.

I don’t know why you’re using it as the case point use.
BtB is also the mode where you’ll die instantly because 5 people are shooting at you all at once.
Its not a mode that particularly specializes in 1v1 encounters in small maps.

Where Ranked and Standard Slayer maps… do.
It doesn’t Excel in these maps, period.
Its outclassed by better weapons and better tactics.

Guys the commando is good in this mode people go to

To play casually that means its great you’re just bad

  • ignores points brought up against it showing how bad it actually is when compared to other weapons in the sandbox

  • says you’re bad for prefering the flight version where it was a bit stronger therefore a decent weapon to consider picking up
