Of all the weapons they could have brought back, I have no idea why it would be the DMR. I expect the DMR to once again be plagued by bloom just like its original incarnation since 343 decided to bring back that garbage mechanic their infinite wisdom.
So I don’t really see the benefit of replacing one high bloom headshot weapon with another beyond the DMR looking better IMO.
A scoped sidekick that’s terrible at its job. The aiming on here is terrible and compounded with the gun’s skillgap makes this weapon a bit harder to pickup. Honestly, the sidekick feels a lot better compared to the commando.
It’s just like the heavy aiming situation with H5.
The Commando was the replacement for the Carbine, not the DMR.
Both the Commando and the Carbine have a high rate of fire, inconsistent accuracy (one due to bloom, the other due to base spread), and an 8 shot kill. Aside from the Commando firing full auto and the Carbine not having vertical recoil aside from ODST, they are nearly identical counterparts.
The Stalker was the DMR replacement (and upgrade). Being a low rate of fire, extremely high accuracy weapon, with aim assist mechanics designed specifically to make them harder to aim up close than far away. (Little to no sticky reticle, but high bullet magnetism)
And while yes, it is more accurate to call the Stalker a Light Rifle replacement because it’s a 3 shot kill, the Light Rifle was Halo 4 and 5’s direct DMR competitor in the sandbox.
I definitely got better at it against my will because of the tactical variety and LSS. It’s not as terrible as it used to be but it still simply does not feel good to me at all.
I miss the DMR too but I’m curious how it’s different enough from the BR to warrant adding it to the sandbox? BR gets quite a bit of range across the Arena maps, except on the bigger maps I can’t see how more range would be much of an improvement.
Yeah, who knows how it will play. Hence my first comment on this thread to not get too excited about its return. 343 seems to be very careful this time around to make sure each weapon has a unique place in the sandbox. If that remains true then I would expect some fairly significant changes from previous iterations.
