So recently I got back into halo, and yeah I have had some growing pains when it comes to starting again, considering I have played nothing but ESO on pc for a long time, but if I recall correctly, we are supposed to only be matched with people in our region when playing alone.
Well…that is not happening…
I have been playing quite a bit over the last 3 days and I am ONLY getting into the US dedicated servers as someone living in Germany, and this is just creating awful game play that I thought we were passed when xb1 came out. According to the xb1 diagnostics I should only be getting 34 ms latency, and I have 0 packet loss, so it is not on my end, can also play other games that have datacenters in europe with a maximum of 50 ms latency and min of 20 ms latency. Yet I get into the games on halo5 and its US, US, US, CANDA, MEXICO, US, US , CANADA. What gives? This is the kind of thing I expected from halo reach, or halo 4, but not halo 5 when we were promised dedicated servers for Europe. Did something change?

Hahaha I got the same problem here (from G3rmany too) and I realm hate the actual mp server system…

I mean, this was supposed to be the game where we have no more host issues, and then, low and behold, its just as bad as before.
My understanding is that the EU server for Halo 5 is in Ireland. When I play with other EU gamer I do find I have a bit of an advantage. I have run into many German players and bested them.

Lets put the fact aside that having the servers in Ireland makes 0 sense for Europe, because it is not even remotely in the center, and does not have the best internet infrastructure to boot. But I play other games, namely SWTOR on PC and their data centers are located in Ireland as well, and I only have 28 ms latency to their dataceners, so that would be acceptable, but it is constantly, and consistently connecting me to the US servers, which is beyond unacceptable for XB1.
In the next Expansion/Update/Patch they will introduce “Pick you Server Region” I think. Or at least, “Matchmaking preferences” which people have stated that is actually that.
Lets hope they get this all sorted out! Im a US player and no longer do I connect to the best server. All I can say is they better have the “pick your server region” in the next update. I just hope they don’t screw this up with some kind of cheap trick! :-/
Oh joy, another one of these topics. I’m from the UK and never had an issue, in fact i actually had issues when region lock was added because NO ONE was hardly online after 9pm. Making it insanely annoying to get matches, i’m happy the way it is now.

I reckon you play breakout and swat right? Two of the lowest played playlists in halo, With region lock it was fine for the majority we shouldn’t have to suffer for that tiny minority. Because that’s all region lock affected, a tiny minority.

So you really don’t mind playing with Americans on 200ms ping? Being bashed from 5m away, getting shot through walls, losing shields to players after they’re dead on your screen.

I would rather waita little while than be forced to play against people that have a quarter of a second jump on me at all times. I never had problems finding matches on slayer, ffa, and warzones when i used to play and it was local servers.

We can only hope. Because I do not enjoy getting meleed and just dropping dead when I have full shields and health.
I’m pretty sure there are two servers one in Ireland and the other in the Netherlands with the Irish server being the main one because it’s where Microsoft’s European headquarters are.
