Trying to find games in EU in after midnight has always been slow but tonight I managed to play about 6 games in 4 hours. Anything but fiesta or tactical slayer is basically wait 10 mins then timeout with not enough players error.
What’s going on with this game? Why doesn’t it just put me into an American server? Playing PC with controller if that matters. Open NAT no issues there. I know the population is down bad but there’s no way it shouldn’t be able to find a game.
It’s been getting progressively worse for weeks. I’m only able to play late evenings and past midnight so I know all too well what you’re talking about…and being connected to US servers game after game isn’t a good experience so I’ve pretty much stopped playing as I have plenty of more enjoyable things to do with my spare time.
With regards to not finding a game at all…I don’t know why that happens so often, but I believe it could be due to their backwards matchmaking system. As revealed in their geo filter patch update, they match the players first (which is apparently now prioritised on location) and then place you on to the server…so when you can’t find a game it means the game was trying to match you with players in the EU. This is totally backwards to how other games do it (connect to EU server first and then find players).
Game is dead, even on peak hours…
there’s no regionnal matchmaking. plus, the matchmaking is bad, plus there’s nobody left in europe playing Halo, mainly because matchmaking was making matchs with 6 years old Kevins VS hardcore 20 years old german players. Disgusting, and traumatizing everyone in its path. Now, game only put me in 110 ping games (US) because i got the internet to handle it. but its not fair at all because its actually 110 ping and i just can’t play. so it’s → go crush little kevins → ok go play US kids, similar skills yeah! but you get 110 ping… fuuuuuuuu so not fair nor fun AT ALL.
I would like to remember Bungie the fact that americans are slow to pick up trends and have sh*t taste. (remember when they left halo franchise in the dust for COD? How you guys been slow to understand that Apex is the best BR when we euro guys, have been on it since first day.)
Maybe stop feeding jam to the pigs and give us a little bit more respect and work.
If you think the good old “always favor US players and servers” from the 360 days gonna fly this time (remember Halo 3 after the first year? Gears of war 2 peer to peer?) in 2022 you are wrong my friends

I also wanted to play a bit of Infinite yesterday.
Found one game in quickplay after like 2 minutes.
Pretty much the same wait times as in Halo 5 for me. That’s crazy for such a new game like Infinite.

We have dragged from Europe big problems since the launch of this game. We have suffered from all possible problems ranging from lag, desync, not registering shots, matchmaking, the horror of dedicated servers unable to provide a decent service to the European territory.
Couple this with the poorly managed cross-play and the absurd ranking system and the inability to select the closest server, it stands to reason that all European people would abandon this disastrous game.
Since the beta, in Europe, this has only gotten worse and far exceeds all previous Halos issues.
Out of curiosity this week I installed the other regular F2P games to test their performance… And all the problems that exist in HALO don’t exist in other F2P games.
So I can definitely state 2 things:
1.- 343i has done a very bad job.
2.- Halo is, once again, an American game for American players only.
I’m so sad and disappointed…
343 employees managed to kill an important IP as Halo.
Some people’s should be payed to stay home, atleast they don’t cause troubles.
I mean games on American servers would be better than no games at all. My issue is I literally cannot find games to play period at these times. If there’s not enough people in Europe (find it hard to believe) then sure put me in an American game
Armour and colours for real money. Lack of content. Slow ranking system.

Same issue, even in peak hours now 5pm-11pm weeknights etc, only finding US servers due to the “ping US servers when searching to stop geofiltering” patch.
Don’t like playing on 220ms+ ping so came here to add to your post.
Player population being at an all time low doesn’t help either.
As most of the time I’m not even getting an American server I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a problem on my end or with pc specifically. I shouldn’t be timing out searching quickplay for 10 minutes it just makes no sense
The fact that it’s slowly got worse month on month makes me feel like it’s purely population related however.
I have a feeling from what I’m reading that the patch they put through earlier to block geofiltering has had unseen consequences. As it seems that everyone globally has had dramas since.
I reckon that the matchmaking server isn’t taking into account the location of where people are at all when it matchmakes.
Not really surprised since population has been constantly going down. Last I saw it was dropping to 2.5k on Steam and now it looks like it’s dropping closer to under 2k. I’ve never seen such a decline in Halo population and this population is somehow worse than what happened with Halo 4.
If this doesn’t give 343i a kick that they royally messed up and make them realize how poorly they have handled the game then I don’t know what else to say.
I can add to this. Once midnight hits in the UK is either 150 ping or no matches.
Yesterday, i played two games and searching alone i was placed with the same players two games in a row. The population has left it seems. The game, at least in Europe is well and truly on its last legs now.
Funny enough, one game seemed to work fine, the second game was like i was sent into battle with no ammo.
Sorry, just one more thing.
There are colleagues who play in the UK, very close to the servers and suffer from all those problems that we have always talked about. Now imagine what it feels like when you connect from another country in Europe at a distance of 2000 or 3000 km from those servers. Every game becomes an absurdity. Thanks.
Yeah that’s my experience in UK too late into the night. Mostly just can’t find ANY game and very occasionally I’ll get lucky and placed into a 120-180 ping game.
What I don’t understand is if there are occasions where the game will put me into American servers, why doesn’t it do it consistently? Why am I timing out when the game has shown it will put me into higher ping games sometimes?
Moreso are we really saying that in the entire of the EU there aren’t 7 other people looking for a game at the same time as me? I don’t buy that.
Its just one of the many, many things that dont work as intended with infinite. Give it a few weeks and 343 will have found a segment of the userbase to blame it on.
I work back shift and my spare time is between the hours of 12-6am and I can’t find a single game. How is it possible every other halo I didn’t have this issue but this 1 I do. Why would anyone in my circumstances purchase any credits??? To me it’s like the pros have been catered for and screw the rest of us!
I stopped playing since season 1 ended but disappointing to see things are still the same. I play other small population games and don’t have this issue so I’m sure it’s busted matchmaking on 343’s end.
Any game that prioritizes an in game store above the actual content of the game deserves to die. Please just let it die.
