EU Engagement As Franchise Satisfaction Metric?

Do you think that engagement with Halo’s expanded universe results in a higher overall satisfaction metric with the franchise, given the recent community turbulence?

The way I see it, there are two arguments to be made:

1.) If you are consuming EU content you are likely to be more invested (i.e. a fan), and therefore more likely to be satisfied / satiated by content in that realm regardless of the state of the game.

(Example: Rubicon Protocol has just released, so you would be able to enjoy that content and have higher overall franchise satisfaction at the moment, despite the state of the game, compared to the average F2P/Multiplayer only user.)

2.) If you are consuming EU content you are likely to be more invested (i.e. a fan), and therefore more likely to be engaged with the franchise and would more closely monitor the state of the game.

(Example: Rubicon Protocol has just released, so you would be able to enjoy that content, which in turn makes you more invested in the franchise, meaning that the state of the game would be skewing your franchise satisfaction more than the average F2P/Multiplayer only user.)

I think for most people, the truth lies somewhere between these two arguments, but I am curious for your take on how things seem to be effecting you, and how that affects your enjoyment of the franchise.

What is ‘EU engagement’? Is it something to do with the European Union?

EU is a commonly used replacement for Expanded Universe.

I’ve never heard that. I did do an internet search for ‘EU’ when I posted, and again just now, and that use of the acronym didn’t appear in the results. In any case, probably would have been better to use the term first before going on and using the acronym.

Thanks for responding with the answer.

I used it in the very first line of the post…

but regardless it seems nobody wants to engage with the topic anyways.

This isn’t the first time the acronym has been thrown around these forums. I’ve seen it commonly used in Star Wars communities given the breadth of content in their EU. It’s also included in name for DC’s cinematic universe the DCEU.

Welcome to the general forum.

There was a time where I was more invested in the expanded universe. Around the kilo five trilogy I stopped following as closely and view the newer content as bandaids for what 343 has failed to deliver story wise. In general, engagement with EU from my anecdotal perspective is in decline.

On a side note engagement with the show was pretty high, and generated more negative reactions than positive. If I had to wager the EU content is only depressing fans moreso.

I should have been clearer. It would have been better to have either:
‘expanded universe (EU)’ or 'EU (expanded universe) in the first line and then the acronym thereafter to that it is clear to the reader.
