I would love the Brutes to return, they’ve not been in a Halo FPS since Halo Reach, come on…
If it’s right for the game? Bring them on. But if 343i wedges them into Infinite just to have them there for no good narrative reason, I don’t think it’ll be good for anyone involved.
So if they can come up with a compelling reason for the Brutes to appear (maybe a faction of Brutes aligns with the Created or, even more interesting, with the Human/Sanghelli resistance), I’m in favor of them being there. If it’s just like “Oh, look, there are Brutes in this game!” I’m much less onboard.
I would also love to see the Brutes make a comeback I miss them, their weapons and their vehicles so much since they haven’t been in any shooter for years, but although I would love to see them return they have to do this in a logical way, they cant just appear out of nowhere and act as if the war with humanity is still on, they need to have a compelling reason to be there if not the story would greatly suffer because of this.
a good solution for this is that some scouting parties from the Banished who happened to be exploring the ring got stuck there and now want to hijack your ship to return home?
I will be honest, in Halo 2/3 I wasn’t as fond of them as they were just too different from the fights I had with the elite run covenant. Plus the covenant weapons were a little more on the UNSC side with clip and ammo instead of the heat and battery weapons of the alien menace, but they were a heck of a lot better than the Promethean weapons which didn’t make any sense why those would be all clip and ammo. At least clip and ammo feels natural for the brutes, so yeah I miss them too, they need to come back along with the flood…
However I would also want to take it a step further, I would want to play as a brute in both campaign and multiplayer. H3 had the best brute design with that power armor mechanic where their armor would act like shields but instead it cracks more like a shell. I would have a armor system that acts like the H3 shield bar and the armor has its own ability but when depleted it is in danger of breaking and once broken the armor ability is replaced by rage (which is also automatically triggered after the armor break). I wouldn’t be as interested in balancing them against Spartans or other characters in multiplayer though, (that is what the elites are for) but I could see them in their own exotic game modes like Juggernaut or Brute Slayer.
I mean 343 already added them back with HW2 (along with the flood), so why they would not return is beyond me.

I definitely second this - it would be awkward to have them just there to kill with no actual definitive plot as to why they are there.
Yeah, the way I see it, the more enemies the better, at least, in a video game. A halo game needs a large sandbox of enemies from multiple factions, that’s just how Halo has been since CE. The only exception to this rule was ODST, but ODST had that one corrupt cop, so I guess he counts. Halo has always had a multi faction mechanic, and I always find it fun to just sit back and watch two enemy factions duke it out. The best way to push this mechanic to its highest potential is to have a large amount of different enemies to fill up each faction. That’s always been one of my favorite aspects of Halo, even Halo 5 did it well by having the Covenant battling it out with the Promethians.
I’d like brutes to come back too, as I didn’t really like too much prometheans as an enemy for different reasons. I don’t think after all the work they did with the Banished in Halo Wars 2 they’d let them be forgotten just like that. They could be the enemy for Halo Wars 3 sure, but I think we could see them popping up in Infinite and I’d be perfectly fine with that.

I mean if you think about it since the fall of the covenant all the species have been creating their own factions. For some to align with cortana, join the humans and elites or become entirely independent factions opens up new possibilities
What would the Brutes bring to Halo Infinite? We’re in the middle of a war that dwarfs even the Human-Covenant war, against an enemy that has turned many of our own AIs against us. Fighting Brutes would be a massive step backwards in my opinion.

Having the Elites as enemies wasn’t right for Halo 4 and 5, I don’t see why the Brutes couldn’t be in Halo Infinite.
I think it would be cool to bring the brutes back. As far as I’m aware the Banished and Atriox are still alive and would be a good way to introduce new ideas into Infinite that we haven’t seen before.

I would definitely like to see something like this, honestly I just wished halo 4 and 5 had you fighting the banished, they were a really well done enemy to fight.

Why? In Halo Reach they were just there, as part of the Covenant, why couldn’t any Brute join Cortana’s army? She calls out every species at the end of Halo 5.

I didn’t mean Brutes as a second enemy faction but as part of the main enemy faction

I wouldn’t really want the Banished in halo Infinite, they are clearly confined on the Ark at the moment, so I don’t think we’ll see them in Infinite (Unless the campaign lasts like 20 hours but it’s unlikely I think lol)
@RashestBobcat: Don’t get me wrong, I like Brutes and enjoy their presence in Halo games. And I’m not saying that they shouldn’t return for Infinite at all. I just want their return to be appropriate and meaningful to the lore whenever and however they make it back into the mainline Halo games.
You’re right to point out that the Brutes were part of the Covenant in Reach. But that’s precisely what I mean- they were part of the Covenant and it made sense why they were present and what their motivations were in the context of that story. The Elites in Halo 4 (along with the rest of M’Dama’s Covenant separatist faction) are a lot less well implemented and don’t feel like particularly organic additions to that narrative.
I get that this is just my subjective take on it, but I’d be disappointed to see the Brutes come back under such mediocre circumstances as though they were put in as an afterthought enemy class in the narrative on account of the game needing variety filler. That’s what the Covenant enemies in Halo 4 felt like, and I was very disappointed in that. The story deserves better.

Alright but as I said Cortana calls out the entire Galaxy, some Brute herds could join her army as well as any other species.
Sure, but I’d like some actual attention paid to it instead of it just being a throwaway bit like M’Dama’s faction in Halo 4. I believe I actually mentioned the possibility of the Brutes joining up with the Created in my original post, so again, I’m not opposed to the Brutes coming back. I’m just opposed to anything being included just to be included.
Which isn’t to say I want it to be a major focus of the story, either- I just want to know basically why the Brutes would motivated to be involved. Reach provided a really simple explanation in that they were just part of the Covenant, and so shared the basic motivations of that entire faction. Brutes have become more complicated (along with the rest of the Covenant) since then, so a bit of attention to the “why” for their coming back would be nice.
Again, I’m not attacking your idea for Brutes coming back. In a perfect world, I think they will. But if it’s done poorly I’ll just wish they hadn’t come back at all.

If the theory of Halo Wars 2 and Halo: Infinite are going to end up being connected is correct then we could very well be facing Brutes once again somewhere down the line. Atriox and the Banished wouldn’t be forced that way and could easily be eased in to the main Halo games.
Agreed. It just needs to be credibly explained in Infinite. That’s my whole point.
The way I see it, the more diverse the enemy types are, the more fun the gameplay will be.

Yes! That is why I want them back
