I know nobody can give an exact figure, but how long would you guess this game will take to install from the disc (while not connected to Live)? Has the size of the game already been released? Will you have to actually update the game via Xbox Live before you can play the campaign? Am I asking questions that no one yet knows the answers to?
Considering just doing the digital download for the first time ever, but I’d like to weigh my options here.
Going digital will be nice, thats what im doing for h5. you get to download the full game a week before release and im pretty sure that includes the day one update as well.
So you will have it ready at midnight on the 27th =]

6 days, 3 hours, 17 minutes and 42 seconds.
On a serious note, I would assume roughly 2-3~ hours.

It took me me about an hour to install MCC from the disc. Not sure about digital games though, or even if they’re any different in terms of install times.
MCC took twenty one hours for me, though I did go digital for that game, Halo 5 will hopefully not be as long since I am getting the physical copy for it. Highest I’ve had to wait for a physical copy was Destiny and that was only about three hours.

thank god i got an external 3TB hard drive back in april. anyway, halo the master chief collection is 62.7 gigs without ODST…and that took…an entire night to download…plus the early morning…for me anyway…so…
Holy cow! I feel bad for you guys that have super long install times. Like I know not everyone has super good internet but man I did not thing some of the install times would be that long.

Well going by the fact that my xbox downloads 1gb in 4 hours, that would come out about 8 days. As there is probably a similar sized day 1 patch, that’s about 16 days in total.
My PC does a gb in 45mins, its just the xbone that is this slow. My 360 was just as fast as my PC.
Digital is really going to depend on your own circumstances. Some people here reporting MCC taking 6 hours? It took me 20 minutes. It will vary dependant on your location and Internet capacity.
If you’re running the standard drive, you can expect probably 30-45 min from disc. Possibly a little faster if you’re using an external with a higher write speed.
This is all assuming the information isn’t compressed like with destiny, where the install took 30 min + another hour and a half to extract it all.
I get that it will have a download and it will be large. That’s why I said disc based install while not connected to live. Wouldn’t it make sense to release a game that has all offline features advertised onto the actual disc? Only reason I ask this is because I’ve never done an offline install before.
Edit: BUUT I just remembered that you couldn’t play MCC campaigns until you updated, so I guess it’s a useless question.
Just a few hints for those worried about installation/download times.
If you get a disc copy of the game then:
make sure to install it while you’re offline and then, when it’s done, download the day-one patch (it’s very likely there’s gonna be one). Otherwise you can stay online but just make sure that, when asked by the console, you choose to download the patch after the installation of the game.
If you get the digital version then:
if you have your console connected via cable it’s fine, you don’t need to worry about anything even if you download it in background mode. - If your Xbox is connected via Wi-Fi then you might have a problem. It is well known by Microsoft that the console while downloading in stand by isn’t connected in a stable way, so it just keeps downloading and stopping every second or so. If you check for your bandwidth usage from your pc you should see a succession of ups and downs that keeps going. Your best choice in this case is downloading it with the console on or connecting it via cable, though it might be very annoying if your router is on the other side of the room/house/you steal your connection from your neighbor.
