Essential Improvements (a shortlist)

Hello there. I created this topic because I am not aware of any focused attempt at improving the game. When a game is handed over to a new developer, namely 343i, they need feedback from the community to learn what works and what doesn’t so they don’t ruin our beloved games. (that’s not to say there hasn’t been a community effort to make changes, I’m just saying there are still changes that need to be made).

I’ve seen a lot of threads complaining about these issues, but I haven’t seen any offering a solution. In a way, I’m not offering a solution either, but I want to get the ball rolling.

I think the best way to get through to the developers is through petition, or at least for one to stumble upon a post like this. If such a petition exists already, I’d like to see it, and sign it.

Now for a list of 7 essential improvements needed in Halo 4. I’m trying my best not to be biased. Most of these are about weaponry.

1: Plasma Pistol Commendation
This commendation requires kills with the pistol, and that’s just not on. The requirements must be changed to at least include EMP assists.

2: DMR & Suppressor
The DMR merely needs to have an accuracy nerf. The crosshair should expand wider to reflect the high damage, which implies higher recoil. I’m not saying it needs a huge one, but an extra ~10% would be justified, and I’d still use it.
The Suppressor needs less recoil- specifically, the size it expands to should be smaller so it’s not the worst gun in the game… Something like 10-20% decrease in maximum recoil would be nice, and make the gun actually useful.

3: Plasma Grenade
It’s simple- we should start with one plasma grenade. I know it’s been addressed before by 343i, but they can be convinced to change their minds. Destroying vehicles should be about finding ordnance, not EMPing and spamming Plasma Grenades.

4: Mongoose Destroyer
As we all know, the Mongoose is a tough nut to crack. To make this commendation possible, there are a few possibilities. One is to make it less resilient (i.e one plasma stick destroys it)- or, they could add a Rocket Race playlist. The second fix would please many of us.

5: Exile
Plenty of maps give the red team the advantage, but this one is just straight up wrong. The Scorpion should be something to be fought over, not handed to the red team (regardless of whether or not the blue team has the Gauss and Banshee)
The simplest way to fix this is to move the spawns so the Scorpion is halfway between the two teams and the early game focuses on securing the tank. The unfortunate thing is that this would require a lot of balancing, testing etc and would not be worth the time for a dev. The community, however, could submit some solutions.

6: DLC maps
DLC maps are pointless if they don’t show up in the playlists! I heard that they only show up if everyone in the lobby has the DLC.
The best fix is to have a ‘season pass’ playlist with all the DLC maps. This way, we can still earn those DLC achievements and anyone with the DLC can play slayer on the maps they bought. I didn’t pay ~30AUD for maps I can’t play.

7: Better map rotation
Finally, an extra rule for what maps are in the voting section should be implemented. This is mainly for Big Team games, where the only two maps ever voted for are Exile and Ragnarok. The simplest solution is to prevent any map chosen twice in a row for appearing for the next few games.

Let me know what you think /flame away. It would be great to have a list of seven essential improvements even if it doesn’t include those I’ve stated here.

Also post links to any similar or related posts so there’s evidence people want these changes.

I struggle to tell whether these are direct copy&paste topics or if each OP genuinely believes they are the only one to have compiled this same list of features with the same opening message.

  1. Up the suppressor a bit/less recoil, maybe a bit more damage.
  2. Make every vehicle not be made of wet cardboard.
  3. Bring back perfection medals.
  4. Improve ordnance just a little, but don’t take away the random factor completely.

And there is my opinion.

(Your points: 7,6,3,2, I am in agreement with)

Objective game type commendations. Since we don’t have separate play lists for them, they are nearly impossible. It makes me really, really angry when I’m stuck at 40/150 Master, and nobody votes for the f(word) Oddball. Lower the requirement or change it because it is nearly impossible and annoys the f(word) out of people. I’m definitely not the only one who think this.

Why the dlc maps don’t show up often in Big Team Battle I will never know. Whats the point of buying the maps if I don’t get to play them often? Thats why I skipped out on the Castle map pack since in a month or 2 the game type will be taken out and they will be long forgotten in the cemetery of the other dlc maps.

The DMR needs a damage nerf and it will be fine but 343 will never do that
anyway so complaining is useless. The suppressor is a plain bad gun also and not worth talking about. One gun that does need a boost though is the carbine, like maybe make it can kill in 4-3 less shots?

Okay, so the ‘lobby waiting’ was a bit of a filler and non-essential.

However I thought about it and nothing related to Spartan Ops. So #7 on my list should be: ‘Spartan Ops weapon despawning’…

The thing about the weapons in Spartan Ops is that they disappear after ~30 seconds once you die/drop them. This is simply fixed. Any weapons that have been owned by a spartan stay in the game, for later pickup. Weapons dropped by enemies disappear after a set time.
