Esports ruins fps games

You don’t seem to be saying what the issues are specifically honestly.

Are you playing ranked mode and think it’s too sweaty?

Is it the balancing of weapons in the game is catered to HCS in your opinion?

In all honesty, I don’t know how esports is the issue for this game since most of the players trying to play to win win play in Ranked mode or scrimmage in Custom lobbies.

The majority of Halo players are angry at 343’s cosmetic business model the way it is right now.

But I also don’t see how Halo having another esport league is bad, or a game having esports is ruining FPS games.

I mean any popular FPS game (Counter Strike, Call of Duty, Halo, PUBG, etc.) all have an eSports competition of some sort whether it be official or community ran. Even games outside of FPS have some sort of eSports competition.

Whether or not you play casually or play to have fun, you can easily just avoid the eSports HCS scene by not watching the streams and avoiding Ranked modes and HCS Store Items. You are not forced to go into the scene. I am also pretty sure HCS is not the ones responsible for the game only releasing with a handful of maps and modes, since it limits the competition pool.

Halo having an esports isn’t a bad thing. It’s a positive playground for people to play on. However, it’s the only playground they’ve built.

Where’s the kids playground?
Where’s the playground with the Lido?
Where’s the playground with the bumpy slide?
Or the playground with the crazy golf?

It’s seems to me the only playground they’ve built is the one that makes them more money.

Maybe esports has indirectly ruined Halo* - through greedy corpo’s!

*ruined the release of halo infinite.
**ruined the holiday
***forcing me to be sociable with family.

Bar humbug!

To the point of the OP, 343 did put the Mk vii helmet all the way at the end of the battle pass yet made it widely available in the store in the form of HCS exclusive armor sets that cant be cudtomized at all. So, whatever one’s opinion might be, it seems that esports did objectively ruin the Mk VII helmet.

Esports has ruined gaming since Rainbow Six Vegas.

look, i don’t at ALL mind esports, i find it kinda cool actually, games considered some kind of sport.
but i do agree… when a dev team leans HEAVILY into esports, it gets frusterating, as it feels like every match is some kind of sweat fest.
but same could be said the other way around… if it’s too casual, then it’l be too easy. could also potentially turn into a sweat fest because everyone is good at the game

really there needs to be a better middle ground. a incentive for casuals to play casually, and a incentive (better insentive) for ranked/comp players to stay out of casual play so that both are split apart, but both are having fun non the less. equally a reason to both stay on their turf
bp and challenges tied to casuals
and ranked based challenges with in game rewards for those who play good in ranked
infinite does have that, yes… but it’s mixed and underwhelming:
the challenges are for both casual play and ranked play… that should not be a thing. if in a casual menu, then challenges tied to that, same with ranked. when in a ranked playlist menu, have challenges specifically only for ranked play
the bp tied to both of course
but to reward those who play better, have them get rewards for actually playing good. yes there’s onyx ranked rewards… but that’s it. i’m talking for maybe a weekly ranked event, or a better weekly reward for ranked players compared to casuals. whiles at the same time, making the casual rewards not worthless
i dunno, just stupidly spit-balling here

All halo 3 ranked playlist had radar except the mlg ones

Ah man was I wrong

I guess that shows I didn’t play much ranked back in the days

I thought MCC’s ranked doesn’t have radars so I must of gotten the legacy games confused in that way.

Halo 3 was actually pretty awesome with gametypes. Pretty much everything had a ranked and social version. Tons of playlist options day one. They didn’t have the cool new mods at launch, like Grifball, Rocket Race, and what not, but it was still pretty awesome none the less.

Well it worked didn’t it?

I know for sure esports ruined map design. Almost all maps follow the same three lane formula, causing them all to blend together, feeling the same but with a different coat of paint. We may have 11 maps, but it feels like we only have 4. The map design and layout in the Bungie Halo games were way more diverse, each feeling unique.

I agree fully. These weekly challenges are completed day 1 for no-life streamers. I’ll be lucky if I get to the ultimate on the last day before reset between work and family obligations. I would like to have a good Halo experience with fun loot to earn; but I’ve been mostly frustrated trying to play this game.

I will give credit where credit is due though. The winter contingency event has good loot and you don’t have to live on the game to unlock the rewards. Kudos.

There are no social BR starts. Ranked 4v4 mlg settings is the only ranked playlist available. No firefight. No forge. Custom games are a joke. The maps aren’t bad but they’re obviously designed with esports in mind. Oh and hosting an esports event less than a month after launch with all these features missing is no problem.

I don’t care if gfuel dorks wanna compete at a video game. But that should be 1% of how we are able to enjoy a halo game. It’s a lot more than 1% right now.

343 needs to get their lives right by releasing more fun maps, expanding the weapon sandbox, adding playlists, PvE modes, forge, theater mode and expanding the custom games functionality.

They’ll cater everything to esports, mostly weapon balance, map design, etc.

Worst case scenario is like overwatch, where they will nerf most tank characters to stop one pro team from steam rolling a certain way, when the other 90% of population doesn’t play like that, suffering from such a balance patch. Thats just one though, every balance patch is like this in overwatch

What people are calling “esports”, I call “343’s confused design philosophy”. At a time where tons of games are adopting projectile physics for their weapons, which add a layer to the skill-gap and are a natural balancing factor at range, 343 instead litters their sandbox with hitscan rifles which, through their hitscan nature, reduce the effectivness of potentially more skillful weapons, that is not a decision any Halo pro in the last 15 years or so would have made. The map design issue may well come down to a simple lack of vision on 343’s part, but at times, the maps seem tailor built to encourage sprinting and clambering, again, mechanics which pros and competitive players don’t particularly enjoy engaging with.

Only watched the streams for the coatings, lmao.

It is certainly esports related. Microsoft did the same thing with gears of war.
They want the game played in this particular way to do call outs and spectate etc etc.

Gears suffered because of it heavily. The game needs to be the game. I personally dont even like the split between BR ranked and assault rifle quick match.

How do you properly learn as new people? It is instantly noticeable when new players hit rank and the flow of the match is so different.

I personally like Halo infinite but i felt Halo 5’s multiplayer is just better overall.
Everyone should have thrusts etc.
Why drop everyone back down to a single starting BR rifle in the sake of “balance.”
or
Why start everyone with only assualt and sidearm but remove all the previous weapons from the game?
It is esports playing a part in that.

Yeah applying it to the NBA does make it sound silly because the products and business models are 100% different. It’s easy to make something sound silly when you apply it to something with no relevance. Nice try though.

that is what the MMC is for, I don’t understand the crying. If Halo plays like the old one, what does it bring to the table?
Nothing besides an outdated style that it will be left behind. They are a new generation that loves this style, for me, I am old school like most of you guys but instead of crying because I got this game for free, I just try to understand the game and get good at it, which I did.
MMC is there if you want to play that old slow style, the players’ count is still high and you can go there.

I personally like this format.

Look, I’m not gonna sit here and argue that 343 does a good job at designing the game for esports. But it’s clear that’s what they’re going for in a lot of ways. And they used an esports event as marketing exposure for the multiplayer when our two main options are Social AR and Ranked BR.
