Esports ruins fps games

There will always be competition in every game mode, and past games have had ranked game modes. These things are true. But in the past there were multiple ranked playlists, and not all of them catered to the MLG crowd. In Halo 3 pretty much every game mode had a ranked version. If someone wants to play ranked with a radar, why not have the option? In Infinite the only ranked modes would be what people used to call hardcore or MLG gametypes. I’m fine with them being there, but not with them being the only option.

And I know, I know, we can just play unranked. But ranking up can be fun, and limiting that to just one game mode isn’t cool in my opinion.

Take radar for instance… if you got radar in a game the game is easier it’s like having assistance, ‘the sides up in bowling’. The game needs less focus to be good. Making it easier for more players to play.

Less intense games produce less sweat.

Non MLG settings are better for casuals.

Radar sucks, that’s why it’s not in ranked. They based it around player skill with their shots not crouching around trying to stay off the radar. I don’t think ranked ever had radar. Nor do I think it ever will.

If anything you could modify a ranked mode in custom games and add radar. That’s as close as we’ll ever get to ranked having radar.

I respect your love for the radar, I like it too, just not in ranked. That mode gives me a break from having to keep off radar or looking at it. With it gone in ranked I can pay more attention to what’s going on in the game and not whats 18m around me :joy:

Update: people are telling me that radar was in legacy ranked so don’t read my nonsense talk about radars

Radar has been in ranked since H2.

I did not know this :exploding_head:

I started off in halo 3 :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Well I’ve liked the no radar as you can probably tell

Well I hope 343 hears what the people want and implement them into there game!

Edit/update: if anything I guess I didn’t do my research. I learn so much in these forums! :star_struck:

That’s okay I like MLG setting too… I’ve been watching and playing them since 2004.

But one of the reasons I know about the low population in these setting is due to playing in them and matching with the same players over and over…. While team slayer with radar had thousands of players playing at one time.

That’s your opinion on it. I think it adds another layer to the gameplay dynamics. If you see someone coming up on you, you have a chance to defend yourself. And arguably the fight is about who’s a better shot. Not who got the drop on who. It takes more work to sneak up on someone if your crouched. I understand your reasons for not liking it, but there’s no reason we can’t have multiple playlists for ranked. That’s the issue a lot of people are having now. If they want to play ranked, they have to play hardcore.

And setting it up in customs isn’t a solution. I mentioned people liked to rank up. You can’t rank up in customs.

It can but I don’t think it has ruined Infinite yet.

When I think about games that esports has ruined, it’s the ones that go all in on the esports aspect and completely change aspects of their game. I think an example of this would be R6 Siege. It tried to be somewhat serious at the start but somewhere along the way the ladies started wearing yogapants some dudes got a pirates outfit, then the gadgets start making stuff invisible and then you are getting a phone call from some chick trying to kill you then zombies and Rick n Morty show up because why not.

I hope esports doesn’t ruin infinite in the future but right now I think the esports parts of this game are easy enough to ignore

If I remember rightly - The hardcore play list in Halo 3 was in Social and it wasn’t moved to Ranked until the following year.

What exactly are you asking for?

Thing it’s party to do with map design being competitively focused, ranked having forced esports settings, specifically no radar and weapon balance.

Also most importantly they are using something called SMBB to match players in social games making them more sweaty than it should be.

The battlebass has less than nothing to do with “esports” and neither does embarrassing lack of content. I can’t even fathom blaming “esports” for Infinites many problems. Poor management and dev/publisher greed, nah it must be that nebulous “esports” that is to blame poor state of the game.

HCS is little more than a marketing arm given that virtually nothing about the game itself actual caters to the people who care about competitive Halo. They could have axed any plans for tournaments years prior and we still would have gotten the same barren release.

The issues with the battlepass, pricing, and F2P nature of the game are of the result of chasing the widest and most casual audience possible.

If you want things to change and get better then you should try and criticize actual issues rather than pretending all of the games faults are the result of nebulous “esports.”

Do you curse “esports” whenever you stub your toes too?

Just so we’re clear, I’m am in no way defending the current state of the game, I think its a disaster, but its important to actually address real issues not your own personal bugbears.

People who unironically use the term “sweaty” are ruining FPS games.

Halo 5 was more halo then infinite is lol

I do agree, esports is stupid and games should not by any stretch be designed around it. That said, I think Infinite would be boring regardless. I think the game is just fundamentally poor; it has minimal content in a number of key areas, is still riddled with bugs weeks after release (and with no indication of them being fixed), and has numerous settings and features that show 343 is more interested in forcing “cool moments” that they can put on ads than actually making the game fun.

Basketball is yet another example of how companies care more about professional basketball and pro players and can’t make experiences for pickup basketball game players who can only play a couple games at the rec center a week. They practice games 50+ hours a week, and try hard sweaty basketball pros are an extreme minority compared to regular basketball players. Heck, I only even play basketball games because I’m off off from my full time job for Christmas and I wanted to enjoy some games, instead I’m sitting here complaining because it’s boring.

NBA, most of us don’t give two craps about professional basketball. I couldn’t name one friend who played in that stupid league, where you couldn’t even get enough seats for us all to watch. I play basketball to have fun, not to be a professional, sweaty, here’s my Gatorade code dork. Get your lives right.

OP, see how ridiculous you sound when you apply your logic to anything else?

You just sound like you’re bad and want to beat people in a game without putting effort in. You ever stop to think these so called people who “only play a few hours a week” aren’t who should be playing this game?

No, 343/Microsoft ruined Halo, what you are talking about is an added bonus.

@TheShadow_CA

No, Bungie/Reach ruined Halo, what are you taking about?*

Fixed it for you. Bungie did great for 3 games, and I’m honestly amazed 343 has pulled Halo back from the trajectory Bungie put it on before peacing out to make dumpster fire and dumpster fire 2.

Agreed. Halo Infinite is just as sweaty as Halo 5
