Seriously, esport ruined halo in so many ways! game modes, from the release of the game we didn’t get a single fun gametype! No infection, no juggernaut, no king of the hell, no big team battle and maps for it. I can go on forever to list the fun gametypes we should of had but instead we got team arena and Slayer and breakout which is the most sweatiest game mode ever. the maps, LOOK AT THE MAPS WE GOT! They’re all small and hideous! All the maps from previous halos you guys listed to be in halo 5 343 gave you the finger and said oh lord that isn’t esporty. Even in the memories of reach! They reskined a map that most of people didn’t even like, if they made us play infection in those ugly, small arena maps I’ll lose hope, let the community do your job and make the maps like they did for big team battle. armor customization, halo is unique because you get to make your own spartan from head to toe, now you only get to pick from 217 armor and helmets. 80% of them don’t even look that good and we could of had playable elites but the game has to be more “serious.” and the big reason why it screw it up is that halo wouldn’t be competitive if there is SPLIT SCREEN! they care about the 60fps and 1080p because it’s good to watch instead of focusing on the fun we could of had gathering together and play the game. That just shows you 343 doesn’t care about fun, the game is in no shape of being competitive because people look for fun aspects of the game and halo is an exclusive game for a console that is barely selling well. It has to be fun to drag more people into getting back to it and welcoming new players. I know a lot of competitive games that just died out over time, because not everyone who wanna try their soul out to WIN instead of have fun and laughable experience.
I’d say the extreme focus on esports is what ruined it, not so much esports in general. The old Halos had an esports following, the difference, however, was that those games weren’t so heavily focused on it. They had options for people who wanted to play that way, while the base game was made for everyone to enjoy.
343 went in the complete opposite direction. They focused the game too heavily on esports while leaving almost nothing for everyone else. I feel they’ve pushed too hard to make Halo 5 an esports game that it just looks sad and pathetic. Like they’re saying “see guys, our game is super competitive. Look at us!”
The old Halos didn’t need to pander to esports. Esports came to Halo.
I agree although I wonder at times why its called esports…
100% agree
Casuals have ruined gaming.
Seriously how do you manage to blame competitive gaming for the lack of armor customization?
I think the main issue is their allocation of funds and resources that focus too much on the events. Like how 'monthly updates keep getting delayed a week at a time because of events, like the people who make modes and do artwork will be doing pr and marketing at those events?? Not a chance
I miss king of the hill. Not sure if anyone really liked it, though.
The other games were true to themselves before they started to cater towards the eSport crowd, where as Halo 5 was clearly designed to cater from the offset and so the fun aspects of the game were left behind.

…How the hell can you say something like that? Do you even know what gaming is really about, or how it even came to be? Gaming used to be just a way to kick back and relax, a form of recreation. But now they’ve devolved into this esports ridiculousness. Now we’ve got games that are all about this hyper-competetive MLG PVP bull–Yoink-, and those of us who just want to have fun dwindling choices. Halo 5’s fun, casual gamemodes appear infrequently, and only last a few days.

Yeah! I remember in CE, you could choose any armor set and any helmet and any gender and any species you wanted … as long as it was human, male, and Mark V. And you could customize … color. One color. And the maps were ugly … well, actually, they looked fantastic at the time. lol
I would disagree that esports has negatively impacted the Halo series. Past Halo games certainly catered to a more casual crowd and those were widely panned by long time players of the series. With the glut of games available to players each and every month, the marketplace is a very different place from what it was when the early iterations were released. Casual mechanics and ease of use may get more copies sold early on, but competitive gaming provides a game with longevity and revenue on the back end. It would certainly seem that this game shipped early to meet a deadline more than shipping what the developers may have been comfortable with at the time. That is also part of the business of video games these days. With the longevity provided by competitive gaming they are able to work on more casual items down the road.
I disagree. Halo-reach killed halo and halo-4 pissed On its grave . Halo 5 has started to breath life back into the franchise.
So what proof do you have that egaming is to blame?

I remember in Halo 3 when we could choose any chestplate, helmet, and left and right shoulders we wanted. And the color options. And the species that we wanted to play as. And I remember in Halo Reach when we could do those AND change our visor color, our arms, and our legs. Halo 4… well, it still had good customization.
Mate, just cause the greatest (maybe second greatest?) Halo game ever didn’t have much armor customization, doesn’t mean we have to have it gutted now. That is just a regression of content.

So??? Halo has been catering to the casual crowd since Reach… who cares if they catered to the competitive crowd for ONCE at first… they have been and continue to add more casual stuff… sorry you didn’t get your way right away. But at least they are and continue to add it.
I think that esports helps Halo as a franchise get back to where it used to be.
I dunno, casuals have had 5 games while the competitive community have had mostly H5, although, I’d pretty much disagree that H5 is competitive focused, due to the defensive armour abilities, motion sensor on in the ‘hardcore’ playlist and even on in tournaments, starting with the hose rifle, visual markers for power weapons that basically yell out where the enemy team are. This game yoinking SCREAMS casual.

Because they focused on the small maps and how it plays for the esports instead of focusing on what we want!
