Escapist review, absolutely awful

Are they kidding me?
Seriously, Halo 4’s campaign, to me atleast, is looking absolutely phenomenal, introducing characters from the backstory and actually expanding on the Lore. Not to mention the amazing cinematics and character bonding that we are witnessing. Are these critics just newbies with no knowledge of the backstory? Seriously…

> At times it’s a good addition; it’s interesting to see this greater depth being given to the story, like the shady ethics behind the creation of the Spartans and how AIs break down after seven years but Cortana has been online for eight. However, relying on other media also hurts Halo 4’s story in places. Master Chief meeting with the now Captain Thomas Lasky is shown in a way that suggests some significance, which can be confusing if you haven’t watched the Forward Unto Dawn miniseries.

Aesthetically, many small things have been changed to give the game a more grounded or realistic look. To be fair, Bungie even did this a bit themselves, but all the little things, like plasma grenades and weapons fire being much smaller, makes the game feel not quite right.

> Thankfully, much of the gameplay has remained the same. Enemies are more than just waves of mooks to gun down, and defeating them almost always requires some kind of trick or tactic.

SO they’re criticizing it for changing, and then giving it points for remaining the same, okay… And apparently expanding characters and introducing new ones isn’t a good thing either. “Relying on other media” They’re also down pointing it because it’s expanding canon, apparently thats a bad thing also. sigh

Such an awful review, just thought i’d share with you guys.

What’s your opinions?

Excuse them for their opinions. They expected a Halo game to feel like the previous games. Can you blame them? I shouldn’t have to read 15 novels to figure out what is happening in between Halo 3 and 4 or have any feelings towards characters.

Some people(myself included) have no interest in whatever the novels have to give in terms of story. The reviewer is basing his opinions off of what his thoughts of the game were. It’s not “awful” because they aren’t brown-nosing 343 throughout the entire article.

You don’t need to read to novels to understand the story, the fact they are criticizing it for being ignorant is the problem.
They’re saying the fact the graphics are looking realistic is a bad thing. Wut

Did that article really say “Captain” Thomas Lasky? -_-

Yep -__-

Yes, yes it did.

Agreed.

O TEH NOES!!! SOMEONE DOESN’T LIKE THE GAME SOUND THE ALARM!!!

/sarcasm

Seriously… reviewers are entitled to their opinions and there are definitely going to be people who don’t like it.

Why does it mean anything that some reviewer somewhere has a review that you don’t agree with and which may not make sense? IGN’s review is horrible and yet I don’t see many people on here whining about that shiny 9.8 that the game got.

> Did that article really say “Captain” Thomas Lasky? -_-

They referred to Lasky as a Captain. Their argument is invalid.

How am I supposed to know what’s up with the Didact, or why I should care about Lasky and Chief’s significance to him if I have stayed away from the extended universe?

Some of the things in Halo 4 require at least some prior knowledge to care about what happens.

They still gave the game a 4/5 and everyone can have their own options.
Some people just need to chill. Really, man, freaking out over a review is just sad.

Okay here’s your prior knowledge.

Didact is a forerunner.
Lasky met chief before.

That’s all you need.

Hate to say it, but you come off as a complete ‘fanboy’.

If you can’t take negative criticism from your beloved game, then don’t read reviews. I love how anytime a company sheds some negativity on hyped games, people freak out. Thank god that at least some company isn’t sucking up to 343 and microsoft.

apparently so, shame i didn’t get an invite to his promotion, i thought he was still a commander…

and just because there is an extended universe does not mean it is required reading.

why not watch FUD, its free.

yes ai deteriorate after 7 years, they don’t just shut down, you might notice how cortana is a psychotic -Yoink- during the trailer, with the yelling the colour changing and the holographic discharge…

so, no that was a terrible review as they acknowledge the extended universe and compliment the addition of new characters to the story, but turn around and then say the extended universe is bad because they haven’t seen it despite the game being made to stand alone without the player having read/watched the cannon.

when rating anything, game, movie, book, music always be objective judge it as is and don’t get too concerned with what else is happening around it. is halo 4 a good game, what would you rate it out of 10? should be answered based solely on the game and not the universe it is set in.

I was giving my opinion on their opinion.
I wasn’t “Freaking out”

Because 343 wants you to know EVERY LITTLE THING about Halo and if you don’t you’re a loser blah blah blah.

right… that wasn’t freaking out at all. I agree with what you are saying but I know a lot of the Halo lore. Some people don’t and we can’t get mad at them because of it. Should have Halo 4 done a better job explaining their lore? I didn’t know, I haven’t played it yet but he did.

Meh, don’t think about it, the only opinion that counts is your own.

So without reading anything, why should I even care?(Hypothetical question, I want to remain as unspoiled as possible) 343 seems to have been trying to make the extended universe and campaign go as hand-in-hand as possible.
