Equipment Walkover vs. Pickup mechanic

I know this is a very small mechanic. Thoughts?

I think having to walk up to an equipment piece and manually pick it up would make the player have to think about timing. Like, being able to just sprint or slide across an equipment piece and picking it up is nice, it’s fast and easy. But having to stand over it and take the time to pick up whatever it may be would have you think twice about running out into the open without considering possible repercussions. I noticed that grenades also now have to be manually picked up and if i’m not mistaken, you can only hold one type of grenade at a time. I love this feature. I love how everything has a risk/reward aspect to it. I could grapple this rocket launcher to me, which would be fast and easy, but I have to consider using up one of my advantages just for the sake of being fast. Or, I just picked up plasma grenades and left my frags behind, now I have the ability to stick grenades but I lose that ricochet ability with frags. If that makes sense.

You have to think more about what you’re doing, and I think that’s good.

Manually picking up items take almost 0 time anyways. I would rather do that instead of accidently picking up things I don’t want.

I agree

Walk over, dont need those moments where I should have picked up or I thought I picked up.

What if there are two items on the ground on top of each other and you only want one? You would have to hope you grab the right one and if you don’t you would have to take even more time switching them.

You can switch them by pressing a button at that point, like H3. I’m not expecting equipment to spawn that close to eachother.

That takes time though and playing competitively that means vulnerability. I would rather the problem doesn’t exist since I did have that problem in ranked with Halo 3 sometimes.

Its a small mechanic, but meaningful when you get competitive, especially in indoor or tight arenas, and also when enemy players will drop certain unused items.

Personally, I’d rather you have to pick up items rather than just running over them with auto-pickup. The less mechanics you can put on “auto-pilot”, the better it is for competitive games. The small stuff adds up.

Pretty much.
