Equipment Idea: Parachute

Something for higher up maps where jumping would normally result in death. Find one on the map, grab it, and jump. Hit RB to deploy. Discarded when you touch the ground. Can be destroyed during use is if continually shot at.

The I imagine the color a dark grey.

Thoughts guys?

Redacted: Apologies OP, I got my facts mixed up.

has no use because most maps won’t be high enough for it.

500 years in the future, I’m sure they would’ve come up with SOMETHING. Parachutes have been proven efficient on the battlefield irl. They woulnt just scrap em for Spartans. Someone would’ve made one out of a tougher alloy.

Regardless of what it would be made of, it simply wouldn’t be able to provide enough drag force from air resistance alone to give a non-negligable opposing force to the weight of a spartan.

no more fall damage end of story

All you need is a booster system that fires for a whole second to greatly reduce speed. Or no fall damage option

Why would you need a parachute when you could just lock your armor like Master Chief does in the beginning Halo 3 or when Noble six does in Halo Reach.

I would much prefer no fall damage and also no mm map should be that tall that you do need a parachute to properly navigate the map(cough* cough* Spire ccccoooouuuugggghhhh*)

There should be NO fall damage in Halo 4. Period.

Something like this would be way cooler.

This isn’t a Military War like Battlefield 3. Makes sense to use Parachutes in BF3 because of the larger maps, but Halo’s maps are usually small in terms of height. So Parachutes are useless.

In the OPs defense there is a Parafoil chest piece in Halo Reach and Maria-062 uses a parafoil during Armor Testing in the HGN.

Personally I don’t see it as relevant to multiplayer but it could be a great start for a Campaign level.

You do realise Mjolnir Armor weighs approximately half a ton (1000 pounds) You can drop a sixty ton tank onto a battlefield with the right parachute, but in Halo its better to take out fall damage or make it so it cant kill you from a trivial fall. Spartans can survive a hundred foot fall. Its just gonna hurt… ALOT. Make it so fall damage can only kill you if you’re over terminal velocity like you got flung by something. Other than that make it so it rmoves your sheilds after a 50 foot fall and removes slight amounts of health until the sheilds go out at a hundred feet make it so you have no shields and one to two health units.

Yeah it’s been a long time since I read the Halo 3 instruction manual :stuck_out_tongue:
But as for parachuting tanks, the parachute needed is much bigger than one to drop a person, a prachute this size would be impractical in halo.

Parafoil

Could be used properly if implemented correctly.

ODST?

I stand corrected.

> ODST?

That we know of, the Marines of the Orbital Drop Shock units only use the Single Occupant Exoatmospheric Insertion Vehicles (SOEIV or “drop pods”) during their drops into a combat zone. While it would make since for them to also be airborne parachute-qualified with a parafoil as a backup incase the pod is knocked far off course or damaged, we don’t know anything about that really.

Plus the differences between the standard ODST kit and MJOLNIR is the key factor so having a universal parachute is pretty “odd.”
