Equipment and fair starts

In chess both players have pieces that you can use different moves with. There isn’t a piece on the battlefield that gives you a temporary movement option. Both players have the same exact movement options from beginning to end.

Exactly it’s a shooter. Why is the focus on equipment and not more guns?

The AR isn’t a comepetive gun. It should never be a start either and in infinite you can hit pretty far with the AR. And in halo 5 it had the same exact mid scope. You never ads with the AR in halo 5. What’s even better. In halo 5. You had a choice. You had all different types of scopes for it.

Halo should be prescision mostly anyways. I don’t really care about the spread if the Halo 5 Magnum is what I was using primarily anyways. And again guns like the smg had all sorts of scopes to choose from AND these weapons were fun to use and worked regaurdless of what you think about the spread

Depending on which weapons you pick up, it is essentially a Pawn going against a Knight. Knight has range while pawn doesn’t perfectly showcases how a player in Halo might notice someone from a distance and use thier ranged weapons to eliminate the other player who has equipped close-range weapons.

Equipment gives you something else to fight over and something that amplifies the effectiveness of your guns.
You pick up a shotgun in a long-range dominated map? The grapple-shot and thruster pack pickup will amplify your effectiveness with said shotgun instead of having you restricted to close-quarters areas of the map because of your weapon loadout.
You picked up the repulsor so now you can bounce rockets and splatter-attempts back at the enemy.

THAT IS THE PROBLEM
The AR in Halo isn’t like an AR in CoD where it is a general-purpose weapon. It is a weapon that is basic and serves its purpose as a well-rounded close-range tool. Halo 5 decided to make the gun able to reach far and have scopes with barrels that allowed what is supposed to be a close-range gun be able to be an annoyance at a distance.
The AR in Halo CE, Halo 3, Reach, and Halo 4 was perfect.
Adding in the zoom-feature that tightened the spread made it so the DMR and BR were no longer a vital pickup for ranged combat application. Couple that with a default sidearm that handles mid-range combat really well, and you can go most games by just spawning and refusing to pick up guns.

So that explains a lot. You’re a PC player I take it?
Here is something for you to consider and meditate on :

Not every shooter needs to be Counter-Strike dude. Variety is the spice of life.
It it was all precision weapons all of the time, the game would be boring and thus would probably top out at 100,000 players top since it isn’t a game built around sniping as a whole.

Yeah rambo stop ignoring him. One person has a rocket and sword while the other has a plasma pistol. Everyone should have same damage output at all times man or its not even starts. lmfao.

Stop right there, if everyone does not have a wrath than it is not fun. lmao
Plus a wrath does not have the movement options of a spartan. Fact. like dudes says everyone should have the same movement options at all times. If a wraith does not have unlimited grapple than it means this game does not have even starts.
long story short vehicals are not fun and ruin Halo.

This dude picks up a rocket “4 shots? pffft limited resources are not challenging. This gun is not fun at all.” lmao.

I better not see u throwing nades or punching in this shooter. u better stay away from the sword and hammer too boy.

Both players have pawns and knights. That’s the point. No player has an advantage over another player movement wise.

Yeah I get the reason why it exsists but the philosophy behind it makes no sense.

How is having a choice a bad thing? It’s not like the req weapons were in arena.

I play on PC with a controller. Played on Xbox until halo infinite. Counter strike isn’t my cup of tea but there’s litterally no other game like counter strike other than Halo 5 HCS settings with no autos. That’s why I’m extremely upset because they took away the only game I feel comepetive in. All other games. And I mean ALL other games don’t come close to how comepetive Halo 5 is. Nothing. If there was I would be playing it right now and not playing Halo but there isn’t. Every game that has good precision based gameplay ALWAYS HAS SOME TYPE OF HERO SHOOTER. It’s furstating. I just want ONE game. ONE GAME where it’s equal starts across the board. And that one game was halo 5. No other game has that proper competitive feel. Not even counter strike because it doesn’t have traditional arena modes that plays like Halo does.

someone has never played cod before every weapon besides lock on only launchers are general purpose. in MW 2019 i can out pistol half of the “AR” users

the AR in CE perfect okay what are you on?

no it doesn’t every piece of equip. in inf is a gimmick and only enhances annoyances and no one fight over it ever .

yet we dont have a DMR, carbine or light rifle

if i do this it will always be in my back pocket “for close encounters” i wont run around the map with just a shotty out

You are misinterpreting my analogy I see. Understandable.
You are viewing the game as every Spartan being the players of Chess, when my analogy views Spartans as the pieces on the board.

All Spartans start the match as Pawns. Equal, able, and capable. But upon changing weapons, they begin to assume the roles of the other pieces. You a have a Sword and Grapple-shot? You are now the Queen Piece. You have Rockets? You are now the Rook. Sniper? You are the Bishop, etc.

The Philosophy is the same reason as the Power Ups of Active Camo and Overshield existing.
It is another tool that helps give you an edge in the fight. Not every advantage needs to be just more firepower. After all, the Repulsor punishes those who have the SPNKR Rocket Launcher by returning that rocket back at them.
It is another way to gain the upper hand in the fight other than just getting better guns.

Having choice isn’t a bad thing.
But when the BR and DMR and Commando Rifle and Stalker Rifle and Focus Rifle and Carbine and Sentinel Beam and Light Rifle exist, then why should the AR be given range application when it has always been a gun about spraying-bullets-into-a-guy-who-got-too-close weapon?

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Valorant
Ready or Not
Critical Ops
CrossFire
Warface
Combat Arms
Urban Terror
Ironsight
Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour
Takedown: Red Sabre

Need I go on?

An Assault-Rifle in CoD has ranged applications while the AR in Halo is useless if your target is at a distance. I can slap an ACOG on my AR in CoD and use my select-fire switch to target hostiles.

Also, @waterpolo1 , love the satire :ok_hand:

clearly you only know CODs basics, look up the sykov, it will poo on almost anyone no matter the range or what i use the M19 with a lightweight trigger, super barrel, compensator, and stippled grip it fires fast as any smg,

besides that, it’s better to use a red dot on any AR in COD, as an acog makes your fov to narrow while ADSing

I think equipment works really well on gametypes like one flag and one bomb. Where you mount your attack on the base by gathering equipment and weapons before the assault begins.

Really loved the bubble shield in halo three when trying to steal the flag on high ground! It gave me a great advantage to get inside the base from flag spawn.

Also another example on Halo three having the bubble shield on a ball game was a real game changer and worked really well to get the edge on the other side. However if one team had one on each side of the map. It would be a guaranteed point or two for each team who got the ball.

All equipment can be as powerful as overshield’s or camo’s and should be placed with caution. Just throwing down over powered equipment can break the game.

The purpose of power ups are for teams to fight over and equipment in certain scenarios should be respected in the same way.

I think what we have works perfectly well for vanilla play. However, I wouldn’t hate having a single thruster charge per spawn. Not that I expect that to go over well with anyone.

Tbr tho, I am excited to see what kinda shenanigans come out of the eventual (I assume) Action Sack playlist.

Kinda like players occasionally camping power weapon spawns in every single Halo ever to come out?

I’m not sure how or where RNG comes into play aside from the asymmetry of the maps.

Gonna have to disagree with the general sentiment though.

Equipment was given unique telegraphy similar to how weapons have historically been telegraphed.

Generally speaking the more dangerous/impactful the weapon/equipment is the more prominently it’ll stand out on the silhouette giving the opposing player some data to ponder.

Gimmicks are somewhat ignored, useful pickups are fought over. Most of the equipment is useable in some capacity if used correctly.

Grapple, camo/shield tend to be gravitated toward in the same fashion as Rockets or Sniper are.

Repulsor and even thruster fit well within the BR tier of things.

Threat sensor is really the only one that is hit or miss due to the massive “no go zone” bubble it emits. But can be used as area denial to great extent in the right hands.

Ahh 343’s champion has finally arrived

camo and shields are power ups not equipment

yet grapple the biggest game changer is hardly noticable

Who might that be and what context does it have on this conversation?

If you really think semantics is the right way to approach it, ok I guess. As it stands camo/shields have taken on the role of equipment compared to previous iterations. The line between traditional power up and equipment is somewhat blurred.

What is a “power up” by definition?

Oxford Languages- Power up: (in a video game) a bonus that a player can collect and that gives their character an advantage, such as more strength or firepower.

Grapple, Thruster, Camo, Threat sensor, Repulsor, and Overshield all grant players who pick them up an advantage. Ergo anything that’s not classified as a weapon, and is tertiary to the base abilities of a player is a power up. “Equipment” is what these power ups are referred to, there are tiers to these equipment pieces much like there are tiers to the weapons on the map.

This ignores the context of your concern and my point refuting it:

It’s pretty easy to see when someone has a piece of equipment to various extents:

  • Camo/Shield has a trail

  • Repulsor has a bright light facing you

  • Thruster, grapple, and sensor are less noticeable I’ll admit. Could be telegraphed a bit better

no matter what bs 343 says shield and camo are power ups,

by this logic OS and camo in halo 3 are equipment which is not the case, its the same with Infinite (disappointment)

oh, IDK the person who always regurgitates all of 343’s talking points,

just stating a fact, that’s all

and please no gaslighting this forum has enough of that already

Sorry but this is how Halo should be … Using skill and map knowledge to gain the advantage to win. Nothing chased more players way than just giving players what they wanted at the start with loadouts and armor abilities… Equal weapon starts with power weapons and equipment on the field as pickups.

But you can still go play those older halo games that you consider real halo and their populations still aren’t as healthy as say fortnite. So while we can say what halo is and isn’t, the question now is is either style what average players want to play at all?

Scoured the post, can’t seem to find anyone fitting this definition. Seems a bit weird to reference someone that without naming that individual specifically for context.

Camo stays in your back pocket waiting to be used/Radar Jammer is deployed upon pickup in Halo 3?

Says the person implying OS/Camo had the functionality as Radar Jammer :joy:

So are we going to actually converse or are you just going to keep beating around the bush giving me the cold shoulder because you don’t like comments?

Camo is essentially the original movement equipment.
