Equipment, AAs, Something New?

Which do you want in the next Halo? And, if you have any ideas, what do you think some of the new Power-ups, Equipment, AAs, and/or next evolution of AAs should be?

For me, I would like to see Equipment return along with two AAs from Halo 4 as default abilities: The Thruster Pack and Jetpack, except the Jetpack would be designed to be more of a Jump Pack (double jump).

The Jump Pack would maybe increase your jump height by about 33%-50%. The Thruster Pack and Jump Pack would also share from the same pool of energy, each only being able to be used once every 7-8 seconds.

And by using Thruster Pack and Jump Pack to replace sprint and Jetpack, we, in theory, provide similar goals to increase base movement without causing as many problems as sprint and Jetpack do (i. e. break in map flow, allowing players to run away from bad decisions, chaos, elongated map designed, etc).

Here’s the default button layout that I worked up:

Click in Left Stick: Crouch
A: Jump (+Jump Pack)
X: Action/Reload
Y: Swap Weapons
B: Use Equipment
Left Bumper: Thruster Pack
Right Bumper: Melee
Left/Right D-pad: Switch Grenades

And here’s my layout for Bumper Jumper, which also fixes the problem when players wanted to use Jetpack, aim, and shoot:

I think AA’s should be completely removed - I just don’t think they’ll ever work in Halo in their current state. (that includes sprint, for reasons of its own)

The problem with AAs is that they remove the perfect balance at the beginning of each match (no matter how much 343 says they’re “balanced”, they aren’t, just by their nature). To me, that’s something about Halo that should NOT be changed. Every player needs to start out the same. Any advantages should be won on the map during the game.

If they turned them into pickups on the map, like equipment in Halo 3, I think it would work. It would also allow them to be very specific with what AAs are on what map, so we don’t get any map-breaking jetpacks or anything like that.

I do like your idea about having movement abilities, that’s something I thought about as well. I don’t think they should have more than one though (or they should have both). I’d like to see Evade make a return from Halo Reach, honestly, as a default ability.

I agree, I don’t think AAs as they currently are will ever work with the golden Halo triangle.

As far as Evade goes, I feel like Thruster Pack does just that. Maybe it does need just a very slight buff though.

I wouldn’t mind having both.

As long as the Deployable Cover is intact (DC launches, inconsistent but insane).
