Episode 5 ending question

Maybe it is because it took a month to watch these, but what was the big deal at the end when they took off their helmets?

thanks

The recruits thought the Spartans were robots, and they showed they were humans when they took them off, or it could be some lore factor, I was hoping chief would have too but we can’t have it all :frowning:

to show their humanity and invoke some sympathy to 3 surviving cadets who witnessed all their peers and superiors get -Yoink!- up by the covies?

It was because they thought the Spartans would be grpwn up but in reality they were like 15.

The Cadets were surprised by how young the Spartans were, given the things that they were capable of and what they’ve been through (healed-scars as proof of long-time battles).

They were expecting the Spartans to be battle-hardened adult-veterans, mostly because of their combat capability and size. But instead, they turned out to be battle-hardened teenage-veterans.

This.

Also there is a lore factor to it. We finally got to see some of the Master Chief’s fellow spartans. It hit me when I saw Fred and Kelly in live action  Kelly didn’t exactly fit my picture of her but Fred surpassed it.

I thought it was because it showed that not only they are humans(instead of some robots) they are also really young. John 117 is around 15 years old since, according to the books and internet he was born around 2511 and FUD takes place c. 2525-2526.

I think it’s a mix of what everyone said really. Partly to show they are just human like the cadets and partly to show that they are about the same age as the cadets (if not younger, about 15 or 16).

I have a suspicion that it was to introduce us to characters that will be showing up in Halo 4.
