Ok ok, so after arguing with you guys for a while let me change my opinion and a say a few more things about FUD and myself.
First of all just because I have no REAL GT linked this account doesn’t mean I haven’t touched Halo. I have roughly 50k kills in multiplayer. I think someone who hasn’t touched the game wouldn’t be on these forums in the first place. that would be suprising.
Also, I haven’t read any of the books so I am most likely missing a lot of Chief’s character from them, I’m going by the games. The games tell me he wouldn’t call himself Chief I think that’s downright silly.
Second:
I acknowledge the way radars work in-game. I know this. However if Microsoft really wants to bring Halo to cinema I think some in-game things should be left behind. A motion tracker would be rather useless if it picked up everything but if you can’t find some kid crawling under wires well, update that technology sir.
Chief’s lights. I should have been more specific. In the hallway in pitch black, yes I can understand why he would need them. Shining them on the open battlefield however just after the slaughter I can’t understand. It looked bright enough out there with the fires. I don’t really care I just noticed it.
Sprinting through an open battlefield isn’t a good idea but walking around looking at dead people isn’t either. I’m surprised a covenant sniper didn’t kill chief or head-shot one of the little soldiers right there. They were in the open. Like I said I would be running or crawling or I would jump down to the left because they were being shot from the right.
I like FUD but I don’t like what they did with Chief. He could be better. That’s all. they other things I don’t care about so much it’s more Chief that will bother me in the coming episodes. Even so I still like FUD.

You my friend are a -Yoink!- read some of the fiction he talks all the time he is a human being after all. Also this takes place at the start of the war we don’t know if the elites have motion tracking and the MC was using the lights so that the cadets can see he doesn’t need them. Last but not least he was standing out in the open to draw the fire away from the weak cadets that have no protection versus the incoming fire. Your opinion is invalid.
> To put it bluntly I didn’t like chief.
>
> - he talks too much ("Oh HAI guyz yeah u can call me Mastur Chef).
> - says dumb stuff: “Chief out.” (more like chef)
> - Why does he have huge lights coming out of his face when they are trying to be quiet and hurry to the warthog. Oh wait, they weren’t hurrying either. They were standing up tall while checking out dead people. Shouldn’t they have been crawling as fast as they can or running?

If he didnt talk at all, how would he be able to comunicate the plan to the cadets hes helping? The only reason he seems not to talk a lot during the games, is because hes usually following commands OR alone. Besides if you think about it, he had to humanize himself a LITTLE bit to be able to keep the CADETS/ROOKIES/KIDS!!! under control.
2…About complaining about “Chief out” is just…nit-picking…A tad pathetic.
Sometimes they need to move slowly even though they are in a hurry to get to the warthog. Its called, “Securing the Area”…It wouldnt do them any good to run as fast as they can, making noise, ergo giving away their position
As for the elites motion trackers…the only excuse I can give with that is that…many times, throughout the game, and the books…Spartans have been able to avoid the Elites by moving slowly/stealthily.
And what started out as a potential for discussion, descends into the inevitable flame war just because one person dislikes something. This is why the forums is full of crap. Don’t flame someone for their opinion.
More than anything, Chief was just cheezily portrayed. The first 3 episodes were really good, but I expected it to get rather silly after the jolly-green-giant poked godzilla to death.
I still love it though, it’s like watching a B-Movie. ^^
Motion trackers don’t capture every single freaking thing that slightly moves.
Also, this takes place long before current technology. Look at things in-game. If you crouch and walk, you don’t show up on motion tracker. Same goes for the show. Same reason why Arbiter’s active camo didn’t last long in H2… Tech wasn’t as improved as the newer armor.
Chief had lights on because it was pitch black. They seemed very bright because he was in total blackness. He needs flashlights because his Mjolnir armor doesn’t have night vision.
He tells them to call him Master Chief because that is his rank, and obviously everyone refers to him as such. It establishes rank and tells the cadets to listen to him. As for the abbreviation of “chief”, its the same thing as Gunnery Sergeant Johnson just being called Sgt. Johnson. It’s just easier.
But the episode had a lot of action, and some pretty tense moments. It most certainly wasn’t bad. If the chief is talking too much for your tastes now, you’re not going to enjoy Halo 4.
