Hey all, I was just thinking about what 343 could do to mix things up in Infinite, and came to a few thoughts about some environments I’d like to see and how they could mix up the gameplay:
- Underwater: A section of the campaign where you’re underwater. For MC in just his suit, 343 could add different weapons and alter movement to be slower, low-gravity-ish. Some underwater vehicles could be cool as well. After watching the Slipspace Engine demo, I wonder if hostile sea creatures would be a better adversary than the Covenant or Prometheans in this environment when MC is just in his suit . - Zero-G and/or low gravity: Zero-G could be cool with a thruster suit on. Low gravity akin to the first mission in Halo 2 seems long overdue… I don’t know that any other mission has done that. Am I forgetting others?? - MP maps with water: Some water between pieces of land could be a nice change up. 343 could enable going back and forth via water and air vehicles as well as either man-cannons or some form of constantly running gondolas. It would be great to add some things that temporarily change the circumstances as well such as switches that turn on shields around islands making air vehicles ineffective, “beach” barriers such that using a water vehicle to land is hard, shutting down gondolas or man-cannons such that you have to use vehicles, etc. - Hazardous environments (weather/terrain/etc): I was thinking about CoD Infinite Warfare’s mission where if you didn’t stay in the shade you got fried pretty fast. I think such a mission with combat in its midst could be really cool in Halo. Having to strategize between when to move, when to fight, and luring enemies into the harsh environment on top of just shootouts could be fun. Another take could be wind like Gears 4/5 where you can use the environment at times to take out enemies. Yet another example might be mud or cold areas that don’t kill you or enemies, but slow your movement way down. I really would love to see areas where you can shoot airlock controls and blast enemies into space prior to emergency doors sealing. I think all of this could be used in both campaign and multiplayer. - Darkness, stealth, and horror elements: I think various missions in Halo have done this to an extent (Truth and Rec., 343 Guilty Spark, The Arbiter, High Charity, ODST, Blue Team, etc). I’d love for Infinite to show dark and foggy environments with XSX power and the first Halo designed for HDR. I want Infinite to incorporate a little more stealth. I feel like Combat Evolved kicked off some stealth gameplay in Halo with the sections where grunts are sleeping and that Halo has left this potential untapped. I don’t want it to be in all missions and I don’t want it to be required where they design it in, but I’d love to see it present in some of the game. Some ideas include: silenced weapons, extreme fog or darkness, smoke grenades, thermal vision, switches/ways to create noise distractions or reduce visibility, and alternate paths. **I also would love to just have a level that hits you with fear and unknown like 343 Guilty Spark did.**What do you all want to see in Halo Infinite’s environments?
