Played a good amount of matches and it actually feels a lot better than the maps on the disc. They even have different game types added in with the map rotation so that just makes it feel even better (Extraction was fun and King of the Hill was just pure chaos if you play it on Shatter!). Only downfall: LAG! NOOOOOO! And also, the bloom effect on… Wreckage I think it was. With that big -Yoink- holy beam in the background blinding the -Yoink- out of me. @_@
They would be better without the eye watering bloom. It’s hard enough for people with partial colour blindness without the bloom. With it you can’t spot the reds for love nor money.
to be honest its good that there are different gametypes in one playlist now but for me its the same map three times just with different lightnings.
It’s fun because all the noobs are back to try out the new maps. Feels like release week again!
Wasn’t that happy with the maps yesterday because people were only voting for Shatter ever single game.
Played more on Wreckage and Harvest today and I’m sold.
Shatter still is my least favorite. Once one Mantis is down, the tides can turn very badly, and very quickly. Teleporters are annoying as hell, I keep on thinking I’ll get teleported to exactly the opposite side of where I’m actually send towards. At least it is fun to play Extraction on this map. Really, that almost is its only saving grace for me at the moment.
Harvest possibly is my favorite. Plays a lot smaller than it looks. Its symetrical (thank God!) and it evokes that more classic feeling of H2 maps. Maybe even of the idea behind The Pit…just now fun to play. Made CTF fun again. Also the most pleasing map visually.
Wreckage is also great in my opinion. Sure: the bloom can be overwhelming at times, but from a gameplay perspective it is a great map. Awesome for King of the Hill and with a nice mix between indoor action and open space/vehicle action. Even more so than Harvest in that regard. Its just a very diverse map, nearly every region on it is different from the other and asks for a different style of play. I’m really digging that.
Overall it has the same uplifting quality Noble and Defiant mappacks had for Reach in my opinion. Base maps on disk are good, but this DLC offers some maps that are instantly amongst the best maps in my opinion.
Really enjoying it so far!
I only liked Harvest. Do you guys know where I can get a ticket for that train? Would like to visit the unreleased DLC maps.
