Engineers in Multiplayer

I dunno why I have engineers on the brain but I guess I just think they’re really neat lol.

But anyways I was thinking it would be kind of neat if Engineers were added to Multiplayer. Think about it: One engineers could spawn in each team’s base and provide over shields for those teams. This would mean that when one is around you would have to find it and destroy it or else it would make the enemy harder to kill. They would also want to protect it because it’s obviously helping them out and then they would want to destroy yours as well. I think it would make for some interesting game play, especially objective type games where getting to the enemy base is important.

There could also be a VIP style game where your job is to keep the Engineer alive. Kind of like above but where the objective is strictly to protect or destroy the Engineer. I think it would be fun if they added them and I don’t mean added them to every match so don’t think I’m trying to change the “core” game play or anything. It would just be cool to have them added in as a variant to mix things up a little. This probably can’t happen in Halo 4 by this point, I don’t even know if Engineers are in Halo 4, but it would be something to maybe think about for Halo 5. If enough people care or like it.

What do you guys think?

It could work in multiplayer, it’d definitely be a new experience and add more strategy to the game but, at the same time, it wouldn’t be fair and would get quite annoying. The game would become tedious.

However, it would be an awesome addition to custom games and forge. It’d allow more possibilities and exploration into forge and custom games.

You could have an armour ability that calls in an engineer who provides an extra layer of shields within a small area. Would be used heavily by campers but it could be implemented fairly…

I don’t know if I’d say it’s “unfair.” I mean each team would spawn with an Engineer at the same time and if you fail to kill theirs and fail to protect yours it’s kind of your fault. People think spawn killing is “map control” so being able to take out their Engineer while keeping yours alive should be considered fair as well, IMO of course.

It could also be set up to where you get a new Engineer after several minutes anyways, unless you already have one. That way it could at least somewhat get you back on your feet if you’re getting totally destroyed.

Kind of brings more camping into the game then more open combat. I mean who is gonna charge at the enemy when they could camp at their own base with their overshields.
So that destorys any type of slayer based game. Objective wise its a bit unkown as they are easy to kill.

Actually, I was thinking about it and it makes SENSE to add engineers to multiplayer in some way. During Halo: Glasslands, Dr. Halsey and the remaining spartan II’s and III’s (along with Mendez) discovered a group of engineers on shield world Onyx who agreed to produce some more engineers for the UNSC to use in the war. By the time the group escaped from Onyx, however, the war was already over. It was said somewhere that the Infinity was equipped with the most advanced tech that the UNSC had acquired and specifically highlighted all the forerunner technology that had been stationed on the ship. This would surely mean that at least a few engineer’s were employed on the ship, right?

It’s possible it wouldn’t work for Slayer, but I suppose that depends on how big the area of affect is for the over shields. I’m sure players would get bored when everyone just stayed in their base all the time anyways. Engineers are relatively easy to kill so a good sneaky player could take your guy out pretty easy if you’re not vigilant.

Honestly I was thinking it would be for more objective based games anyways though because it actually involves defending and assaulting the area.

You could have a sort of escort-based objective game that requires you to stay close to your engineer and defend him so that he can get from point A to point B without getting killed. (Don’t know if anyone’s played mass effect 3 recently but similar to the new escort objective they added with the Earth multiplayer expansion).

I have and that would be interesting actually. It could maybe be a point based game where you score a goal for getting him to the extraction point and naturally the enemy tries to kill it. I’d play it.

the OP has a great idea but it should be one enigneer and we fight for it like oddball

> the OP has a great idea but it should be one enigneer and we fight for it like oddball

It would be hard to make it work though since we can’t exactly hold it like the oddball. Although maybe something like King of the Hill? Have a highlighted area beneath the Engineer where you stay in to control it and take advantage of its affects?

Alternatively, the powerup overshield could be an engineer. The engineer follows you and gives you overshield, that way it takes two plasma pistol EMPs to take out your shields.
