Mostly spawn a sword when you are defending a base, if attacking, try and get an overshield because you are going to die before even launching with the sword. That is my 2 personal tips.
If you choose to spawn it in a different situation, think that this is a CQC weapon and you will have to coordinate your attack accordingly
Just keep in mind where you’re spawning and where you’re using it. If you have to cover a lot of distance to get to where you think you’ll get some kills with it, it may not work, or you may need to also have an overshield or active camo. The Advanced Sensors armor mod can help too.
… And use the smart-scope. Yes, it doubles the lock range 
Practice with the Sword and get used to its zoom, once you figure that out you can increase your lunge range by a lot. It’s very helpful for taking out players with precision weapons, players with automatics will sometimes manage to kill you.

Game changer that when I found it out. Took me a long time to figure out how people were flying across the map at me and I couldn’t the other way!
Also Spartan charge with a sword is a 1 hit kill. Once I knew that playing Slayer on Overgrowth is a lot of fun if you have the Sword

Swing first, swing fast, swing hard…That’s the only advice I have 
be located close to de dedicated server as well , if your not in the usa just dont use it , same for shotgun and scattershot .

This will definitely help a lot to know.
I asked because in one speed run video, I saw this guy lunge and he flew over a vast amount of distance but I couldn’t see that he had zoomed in first.

In the older games it doesn’t work, it’s new to Halo 5.

I didn’t know this
A secret trick is to say “swoosh!” every time you swing the blade. It’s clinically proven to work.
Learn the traffic areas, people run right Infront of you.
avoid a long range fights.
Don’t chase people too far.
Lure people and switch to sword.
Distract them with smart scope levitation than kill.
