Energy Shield Ability?

Hey, I’ve been a big fan of Halo since it came out and have grown up with it. I just spent the past hour with a friend discussing a made up idea for an armor ability we would love to see in Halo 4.

Basically the idea we had is a plasma shield like the jackals shield. It ejects out of the left arm and has a large bright orange circle below your wrist where it deploys. To use it, you would become stationary and crouch in place, putting away your weapon or having a side arm, and the shield would deploy to cover the direction your facing to absorb fire.

It’d disappear if shot by enough rounds, melee’d, or overloaded with a plasma pistol. If you were melee’d by an energy sword, you’d stumble back with your shields gone. If you have a grenade explode in front of you or a rocket, the shield would overload and go away and take your shields. Your still exposed from the left, right, and rear, but can tilt the shield a little about 15 degree any way to absorb fire.

It lasts for about 5 seconds, and usage regens in 10-15 sec. Long enough to try and regain your shields.

What do any of you think? Seems like a fairer version of armor lock and it doesn’t really give the opposition a terrible disadvantage. Or do any of you have an armor ability that would be cool?

There is no such thing as a plasma sheild in the Halo universe, and the bubble sheild has been removed. I dont think a jackal sheild would be of much use to you as a player. Plus, stopping and crouching basically begs someone to toss a plasma grenade at you or shoot you with some power weapon.

A cool armour ability to me would be the ability to instantly jump a few feet through a slipspace portal. It would allow you to get in close with weapons such as the shotty, Energy sword, and Magnum. It would have a ten second cool down between uses.

While there’s nothing wrong with your idea, I don’t think it belongs in Halo. All it would do is change gameplay and slow it down considerably. There’s no need for it to be slowed down and changed much more. Something of this ilk could work in custom games but certainly not in Multiplayer Matchmaking.
