Enemy Model Variation - My Thoughts

First of all, I’d like to say I really liked the look of all the enemies so far in the latest Inside Infinite.

I know they mentioned variation and modularity in the article but I’m curious as to how far this goes. I personally love that they’re incorporating legacy versions of enemies but I found myself wondering a few things regarding enemy types. Largely with the same over arching theme, a Banished style.

TLDR: I’d like to see Banished style variation/aesthetic across all enemies.

Now what I mean by this is the aesthetic that the Brute Berserker, Spartan Killers, and Grunt Mule had. Will we/would you want to see additional variation/styling of each enemy type with this look? I personally would.

For instance, I like the classic grunt look, but would also like to see grunts in red and silver Banished colors but sporting the same look/armor as the orange or white one shown in the article. Additionally, I’d like to see a be normal Banished grunt. I love the look of the Grunt Mule and would love to see other grunts in a similar theme.

With the two Jackal renders, I saw minor differences but largely it just seemed like a different color. Which isn’t a bad thing. Would like to see some with maybe blades on their forearms or a red energy shield but largely I thought they looked fine.

Elites. I love the look model of the elite. I mainly just would love to see a Banished aesthetic on them. Red and silver. Some more edgy looks on their armor. Perhaps they have their own rank structure where their armor or head dress changes based on rank akin to an Ultra or Captain looking closer to what Shipmaster looks like in HW2.

As for Hunters, I believe we’ve only seen them in game once. And they look great from a classic look. Again, I want to see Banished Hunters. I believe there was a Mega Constructs set that had them as white and red? Maybe their fuel rod cannon behaves slightly different as well.

And finally Brutes. I think the Banished Brutes look awesome. I’m excited to see what sort of variation they have for armor and looks. As alluded to, I’d love to see super bulky Brutes in armor (huge shoulder pads and helmet crest) and then more slimmer down ones. One think I will say, as for helmets and faces, I’d love to see variation there. Some Brutes with just the jaw covering like in the in game render from the article. Some Brutes with a helmet and jaw armor so it looks like a full face covering. Some with just the helmet and then some with none at all. I really loved the concept art from HW2 of some of those helmets and then the style of the Brutes, Pavium, and Voridus from HW2 was awesome. I’d love to see something similar.

My last thing about Brutes is I’m hoping they’re changing up hairstyles as well. I’m not sure how I feel about having every monke I’m fighting have a Mohawk and goatee. I’d like to see maybe some longer hair like dreads or something, short hair, bald even (a la Craig. But honestly more like Pavium and Voridus again). But also same with beard. I’d like to see variation there too.

I’m really loving these enemies and am super excited. I’m just hoping that the blend of new and old doesn’t mean that all Grunt Minors are old school orange ones and only Brutes or newer enemies rock a Banished look. Maybe it’s just me. Curious to hear anyone else’s thoughts on this.

Hunters had some cool armor and variants in HW2, so hopefully we see a goliath, or boss that has a similar aesthetic to Colony.

Agreed. I think that would be an awesome mini boss or just enemy type to introduce. An enemy we absolutely can’t splatter. Granted, Hunters have always somewhat been like this but Goliaths could ragdoll Warthogs and such. Flip Scorpions. And that kinda thing. I really think HW2 concept art nailed the Banished style (Granted, they were the ones to introduce them) but I really would like to see a lot of the elements and aesthetics introducers there carry over.

I like the variation, maybe lesser ranks like blue elites wouldn’t have banished style, maybe higher ranking elites might do that we haven’t seen yet.
I love the banished aesthetic, but on every single enemy it could be a bit too much.
A Banished Hunter would be so sick, would probably need new undies if I went down dark corridor to come face to face with a hunter with black armor and red eyes
and again maybe there is one we haven’t seen yet.
343 have done a fantastic job with this
