Will they go back to old enemy design in the next game personally I did not like the way elites or grunts looked grunts looked like they belonged in gears
I strongly disagree. i acknowledge that there were mistakes, like the “wife beater” approach to elite armor plating, or the fact that jackels more reptilian than avian. On the other hand though, I like the grunts new skin and armor arrangment, and other the than aforementioned sleeveless armor thing, armor design is better than ever.
Extremely doubtful. Halo 4 marked 343’s first main entrance in the franchise (video game wise). It is 343’s vision for Halo, all the way down to how Grunts receive their methane through their nostrils instead of a face mask.
There might be small changes here and there, but don’t expect the Covenant to change much over the course of Halo 5 and 6 and whatever other Halo games 343 release using the new artistic approach.
I’m glad 343i made the Grunts look more bearable (shame it impacted canon but oh well). I’ve hated their appearance since Halo 3… Reach made them slightly better by getting rid of the ridiculous red eyes but eh, the skin was still horrific. Halo 4 Grunts are the lesser evil.
I miss Halo 1/Halo 2 Covies, they were the prime example of Covenant, although Halo 3 did Hunters very well and Reach did Drones very well.

I hate every aesthetic change they’ve made. Every single one has been completely pointless and shows change for the sake of change.
Should they go back? Undoubtedly. Will they? Undoubtedly not. This is their vision for Halo, and they’re going to stick with it. Which I guess is commendable, but I just can’t stand the way the Covies look. They don’t look anything like Covies, and the changes weren’t reimagining. They were completely restarting. Nothing about the new grunts would make me think they are grunts.
Even if the models don’t change, how about the colors? The covenant is all about bright, flashy colors, not muddied black and dark purple. Furthermore, the sound was terrible. If I hear one more mechanical whine from a Grunt, I might punch something.
They just changed grunts too much in my opinion they look so damn different from the other games elites should go back to halo 2 and 3 design but like most of u said they probably will not go back
You should keep in mind that these are the storm covenant, not the true covenant. I will however point out that the prologue created some serious plot holes( Storm elites never existed or invaded any planet with lots of Spartans on it). Their designs may have been purposely made this way to tell which covenant they belong to. (But the zealot design is bad a**)
Are you kidding? I loved the new designs. They looked exactly like a “knock-off” Covenant should look like.
Not a fan of their new jaw design, at all. Also the skin shows too much, especially with Juls setup. Not even a under armor “wetsuit” type of any sort? Just bare skin? Not a fan.
I’m still bothered by the scales on the Grunt’s arms and legs, along with the fact that they have butts, 6-packs, and belly-buttons. They are arthropods and should have an exoskeleton, like arthropods do; not mammalian features like they do in Halo 4 for reasons that boggle my mind.
Also, while I have no problem with designing different face-masks, like the Ultra in Reach, why did they chose to stick a pipe up the Grunt’s nose? Basic biology will tell you that should not work as the nostrils would connect to the mouth, so then all the Methane would seep out their mouths and they would be inhaling Oxygen and die.
Even if the Grunt’s biology turns out that the respiratory system is entirely separate from the digestive, then why would some Grunts wear face masks in the first place? If it turns out to be for protection, then why wouldn’t they all be wearing them, as the things seem pretty cheap and common?
I just dont like that the grunts jackals and elites all have the same texture type even though they`re different species.
I would prefer:
Halo 2: Brutes (halo 2/3 armors)
Halo 3 odst: hunters ans drones
Halo reach: elites
Halo 4: grunts (diff skin texture would be nice) and jackals (i really liked what they did there)and Humans (but with more upgraded Halo 3 armor)
@rubric those weren’t storm covenant those were covenant invading human worlds and the Spartans fighting them off earlier in the war
I’d like to address several things already mentioned, as I saw some mistakes and misunderstandings.

Jul’s Covenant is known to use older Covenant equipment, from their Phantoms to their Beam Rifles. Not only that, but most of the governing Zealots in this faction are from Hesduros, a Sangheili colony known to have a thing for organic armors and design. These two facts considered, it’s no surprise that this new Covenant appear to be less regal and advanced than the old Covenant Hegemony.

Unggoy actually debuted with a more reptilian look, all the way back in Halo: Combat Evolved, and continuing into Halo 2. In fact, if you look at the heretic faction Unggoy, you can clearly see their pointy teeth and relatively average mouth. Halo 3 and Reach were the two installments that had odd Unggoy, in truth; they feature bulkier and thicker carapaces, and a very different maw than the first two installments. The Halo 4 depiction of Unggoy is actually closer to the originals. Even so, the Unggoy number in the trillions, so I’m sure different grunt designs can be considered canon.

The Kig-Yar featured in Halo 4 are actually stated to be descendants of Kig-Yar from the isolated continent of Ibie’sh, located on the Kig-Yar homeworld of Eayn.
I hope not, I like the new designs.
They should make the Grunts taller (about Human size)
> They should make the Grunts taller (about Human size)
No. That would make them less fun to kill, and it would look strange to see a group of human sized grunts fleeing after a leader is killed. They are supposed to be small, cannon fodder.

THANK YOU!
I have no problem with artistic license, but why change the anatomy of a well known and established alien in the Halo franchise? The new design makes no sense and is an insult to the canon Bungie established.

The halo 4 grunts looks like the original grunts, and the halo 5 looks like the ugly version of the halo reach and 3 grunts, the dont “broke the lore and what they supossed to be”
