In Halo CE and Reach the Covenant spoke their own languages, with and exception of the grunts. In the other halos the Covenant could speak perfect english. So I was wondering if the “Covenant” And the unraveled enemy’s would speak English in Halo 4. I hope that they dont. It kind of made them scary and more alien. If there is the IWHYB Skull they could speak english.
Off topic: I wondered if the chief took math class when he was captured and trained to be a spartan. I could completely imagine him getting pissed off at a math question and hell end up flipping over his desk and hell storm out of the room
Math? Your giving me headaches, damn algebra.

there should at least be an English option for enemies
Chief taking math…not sure why they would teach them math, if they are training to be super- SOLDIERS
They should make the covenant speak English seeing how they did in Halo 3. Also it could make it more interesting storywise that way you could find out why the Covenant broke the treaty through covenant. And make some cutscenes and story elements potetially more interesting. Plus it would make the IWHBYD skull fun again.
Read the books. The spartan II’s got the best education there ever was. Why wouldn’t they know math? It’s critical to any battle situation. Makes you think outside the box. They’re practically as smart as an A.I., considering that the A.I. were there teachers.

To make one more logical.
OT: They should speak English because it’d be breaking canon if they didn’t, wouldn’t it?
Yes, they were taught math, as is told in The Fall of Reach. Not only do the Spartans need to be physically good soldiers, they also need to have an exceptional mind.
If they do speak English it better be epic. Elites in Halo 3? Noooooooo.
> Chief taking math…not sure why they would teach them math, if they are training to be super- SOLDIERS
This is one of the most ignorant ideas ever, why wouldn’t they want the Spartans to be smart. They probably taught them very complex math, it probably isn’t even that hard for them.
1+1 eh… ah…GAH*FLIPS OVER DESK AND THROWS IT OUT THE WINDOW
I think they should only talk English in cutscenes.
Well elites have learned to speak English over the course of time they’ve been fighting the humans. I suspect it’s because it would be beneficial to know what they’re saying, so they can spy on them and what not.
I don’t know why grunts and brutes can speak english, but I guess it would be for the same reasons.
It would make no sense for them to just “unlearn” the language.
Let them speak there own language yeah sure, but it doesn’t mean that they should be unable to speak english too.
Maybe they should speak Spanish instead of English…
“EL WORT!”

This is correct.

I wana hear the grunts speak some Spanish to
Actually, i heard the reason the covenant always speak english in halo 3 was that MC’s armor has translation software that lets him hear what they say in english. Unless the covenant (or ex-covenant, if that makes you happier) are speaking a never-before heard by humans dialect that the armor/cortana cannot interpret, we should definitely hear the coves in english. For the new enemies however, it would make sense that at least at first we should hear them in their own language, at least until Cortana or oni or someone else figures out what they are saying and can update chief’s armor again.
Oh, and here is proof, if you can accept a wiki as such:
from the halo wiki:
> UNSC translation software has been able to decrypt a number of Covenant languages, most notably those of the Grunts, Elites, and Prophets. By the time of the Battle of Earth, this software could automatically interpret everything the other races said, and has apparently been installed in the equipment of all UNSC military personnel, as all personnel appear to have the ability to understand what members of these races are saying.[4] This is the reason that Grunts, Elites, Brutes, and Prophets heard in Halo 2 seem to be speaking English. Some of the members of the Covenant know how to speak English, mainly Elites and Grunts.
If there are forerunner involved, it’d be pretty cool if they spoke in alien tongue until someone (cough…didact) gave us their translation software.
Make them speak both. When speaking to each other (giving commands etc) speaking in alien tongue and when conversing with humans in English.
p.s. Chief is smart cookie and is good at maths.
