One thing I really dislike about Campaign and Spartan Ops is that any Covies with Needlers can super-combine you. Before H4, Halo: CE was the only Halo game where enemies could super-combine you, and it was changed for a reason.
I find this annoying especially in Legendary, where some random Grunt or Jackal can easily fire a few bursts of the Needler at you, and boom, you’re dead.

Wow, I had no idea you knew so much about how I play.
Sure, let’s ignore the fact that Spartan Ops often gives players very little cover, but a ton of enemies.
The Needler happens to be very powerful, so you either don’t play as much or are very lucky.
At least with Halo CE both ally and enemy AI had to reload/cool their weapons which, if you were pinned by a Needler, gives you a chance to pop out and take a few shots of your own and probably kill the Covie/Flood with said empty Needler.
From H2 onward everyone has bottomless clips/battery which in my opinion is a very unlikeable thing, there was no real pause in the fire, enemies and allies alike can just spam trigger fingers. This was ESPECIALLY evident in Reach, remember those Concussion Rifle wielding Generals/Ultras on Legendary? Boom-spam. Not fun at all.

They balanced the bottomless clip by making the AI fire in bursts.
The only problem i have with it is that they removed the body/gun jerk. The needle hits in spops are undetected, you dont know how many you have sticking in you until its too late.
I agree wholeheartedly op. I don’t like being forced to use a certain tactic all the time.
Also, reclassifying it as a power weapon does not change that it is an unbalanced noob weapon for people who are unwilling to learn about the enemy AI. The Needler in CE was extremely versatile. The Needler in subsequent games is a massive downgrade and is very unpleasant to fight against and unsatisfying to use (where’s the fun in instant explosions? I don’t get to see the enemy’s reaction).

You know what I didn’t like about Halo 2, 3, and Reach? How strafing is utterly useless against the Needler. In CE, you could dodge the needles if you were attentive. I felt a lot like a powerful Spartan in that game despite the lack of melee force, jump height, sprint, etc.
And no, I’m not a wimp. I play Halo 2 on Legendary with most skulls on when I’m bored:
But I can settle on a compromise. I feel Grunts and Jackals do not deserve such power but the supercombine ability is acceptable for Elites. So for Halo 5, I’d like only Elites to be able to do it.
Lastly, it kills AI collecting. Even if that was possible in Halo 4 (they deload too often), it’d be absolutely frustrating. Imagine if supercombining enemies were in Halo 2. This would be impossible.
So I propose another compromise: make it a skull effect
Sincerely,
Champion of Campaign gameplay balance and all things AI
I play SpOps on legendary… Pink explode only happens when I do something I knew I shouldn’t have done. I’m cool with that. I threw myself into a dumb situation… Boo hoo.
My only complaint… Spawn camping covies! Wtf. Really? Spawning behind creates just to be banshee pooped on from above. That’s that chit I don’t like.
Given they have made the weapon do what it is supposed to do, I’m fine with it.
Also given that this game’s Campaign is ridiculously easy compared to the past games, it adds difficulty. The difficulty in Spartan Ops is inherent to them swarming you with enemies, and the fact you have infinite lives, it shouldn’t even be a problem.

The Elite’s clearly a loser as he can’t do -Yoink- about his predicament other than spamming grenades. Same thing in Halo 4.
It’s no wonder why Elites have lost their luster recently. They’re just savages.
RIP English speaking Elites
RIP fearsome stance, appearance, and berserking
RIP Elite jumping capability
RIP Elites who crouched when taking cover
RIP Invasion
RIP Elite allies
RIP playable Elites in MP
RIP distinct Elites

So you don’t care about a proper challenge?
Not everyone likes to die again and again. Some people actually try to survive.

If you want a proper challenge in Spartan Ops, make lives. Problem solved.

Also don’t assume I just die and die again. But the needler isn’t the issue with Spartan Ops.
