Enemies should actively hunt you down

In past Halo games, most enemies wouldn’t follow you past a certain point in their area. In Halo 5, enemies need to seek you out and flush you out of hiding. This would make encounters a lot more urgent and tense.

Only when their forces are getting defeated should they fall back to the defensive. Covenant are supposed to be the all-out pressure-charging force. So why isn’t that fully reflected in-game? The Flood in most cases would hunt you down, so fighting them was exciting and tense (Save for Halo 2, where they’re just non-reactive bullet sponges).

I agree. Enemies in all of the games have tended to be way too defensive–they stick to a predefined area and don’t really venture any further. In games like F.E.A.R. and Payday 2, enemies will swarm and surround you if you let them, and I really enjoy that. It makes fighting AI not only interesting, but challenging, since you can’t just take pot shots and leisurely pick them off one by one.

There have been some enemies in Halo games that have made the nasty habit of getting in a little too close. Namely these have been Drones, Berserker Brutes, Skirmishers, and Crawlers so far. It would be nice to have Jackals and Elites get too close for comfort as well, though it wouldn’t be in the cowardly nature of a Grunt (unless ordered to by an Elite that is).

Halo Reach Elites had this nasty habit of hunting you down if you stayed in cover too long though. That was nice, and sometimes a little bit frustrating.

one of the more minor things i disliked about Halo Reach was that Elites and Brutes hunted you down ruthlessly.

If i went behind cover to charge my shields, i’d find myself on the receiving end of an Elite’s Fist.

TBH, the AI behavior for Marines and Covenant is flipped, Marines are too aggressive (which often gets them killed), and Covenant are too defense and static (which goes against their Overzealous and religious mindset). It would be Nice for both sides to get what they should get. Marines can better support the Player if they use more cover and group together, while it provides the player with a challenge as they don’t always push forward wholeheartedly. And with the covenant, having them more aggressive would provide a better challenge.

But i don’t want enemies hunting you down ruthlessly if you go behind cover, then it gives the player few chances to recharge their shields, and considering the amount of damage, and your level of health, that’s just gonna be too hard.

Reach Skirmishers and Elite Ultras were particularly nerve-wracking at coming after you no matter what.

Am I really the only one who get chased by Promethean Knights?
Seriously, I have been chased VERY far, but sometimes they don’t even bother!
I would rather have the chasing aspect of it for sure compared to their usual boring nature!

I like this idea! Marines are excessively reckless and, as a result, never contribute, which I can understand. However, I think this would be a great thing to do with ODSTs and Spartan IVs because they’re more disciplined soldiers.

I’d say the same thing for the Covenant as well. Change the style of their fighting depending on the situation. Elites being constantly being a threat while grunts and jackals might be more cautious, especially when they’re not under the command of an Elite, Brute, or an higher-ranking units.

Drones always need to swarm, in fact, I’ve always thought they needed to be more of an aggressive enemy.
