Who wants the Warthog drive section at the end of Halo 4? We had it in Halo CE and 3, I say lets have another at the end of Halo 4.
I don’t want one. IMO, Warthog driving endings are the most boring endings Halo has ever had. however, a lot of ppl would disagree with me. Warthog driving endings are classic, no doubt, but boring. there’s no real excitement. no real challenge. just hold down the throttle and turn left/right every so often.
As cool as the Warthog marathons were in Halo: CE and Halo 3, I’m hoping 343 can pull off something a little more original and breath-taking for the end of Halo 4.
343’s position is awkward since they want to make a Halo game as great as Bungie’s games without copying the unique Bungie twists, if you know what I mean.
No. Halo game ending sections (other than CE’s) are lacking creativity or something to be genuinely excited about. It’s time for something new and original.
Ending sections of each Halo game:
CE:
- blowing up the engines
- hog run
H2:
- escort (not really since the Scarab’s invincible and scripted so you can just wait for it to arrive)
- boss battle (Tartarus)
H3:
- wave battle (Flood)
- boss battle (343 Guilty Spark, which was pathetic)
- hog run (vastly inferior to CE’s due to prevalent random elements, linear path, and excess scripting)
ODST:
- escort (Oliphant)
- wave battle (Covies)
Reach:
- wave battle (Covies)
- mini-boss battle (Field Marshal with 4 Zealots)
- target shooting (Phantoms)
- wave battle (Lone Wolf, there’s no point fighting it), mini-boss (sword Bob Elite)
Reach and H3 ending sections had the most variety (Reach being more interesting IMO) but they were just too short and/or combat was lacking or repetitive (and could be skipped completely in H3’s case). And there’s no way to beat Lone Wolf, meaning no incentive.
Defense, survival, escort, and escaping are overused objectives.
Variety is key. Evenly distributing time to each of the aforementioned objectives might make them work better than dedicating an entire section to them.
I’m not really creative when it comes to coming up with endings but if I were to pick an ending for H4, it would have to be a boss battle (preferably 1 vs. 1, with no endlessly spawning mooks or reliance on allies (<mark>I’m looking at you Johnson!</mark>)) or an all-out offensive (Think Truth and Reconciliation. Storming an alien ship with a lot of marines and killing everything).
I want a Warthog run in Halo 4. It’s just a really nice way to wrap up a game.
I enjoyed the hog runs. But felt they were too easy. I would like something along the lines of doing the Vidmaster Annual Challenge. 4 player coop, legendary with skulls, make it a real challenge, and offer up a reward for completing, similar to how the vidmasters played out… Something you couldn’t just jump online and do ‘real quick’ i mean… it would require some serious coordination among the group. and several hours of failed attempts.
Maybe we’ll get a pelican run. Have to escape a collapsing shield world in a pelican. Dont know if that would work, but hell… at least we’d be drivin a pelican. lol
Nah. Id like to do an escort of sorts to start off the ending. then fighting waves of enemies then in the midst of it a boss or rather a few really tough guys to take down then make some sort of escape flying driving doesn’t matter heck since we have sprint we could have a scripted event where we make a mad dash to get the hell out and add an explosion.
And of course you need an epic cliff hanger that makes us all want halo 5.
just my idea though.
They were fun
But its been done a few times and I would prefer a new ending .
I would like a unique ending that’s not hog-related but also have an easter egg ending that has one just for the hell of it.
Something new please…
Fine with a Warthog section but not an end game mission.
I really like this idea. It would tie in well with the story. This is my idea, Requiem gets blown up by the Forward Unto Dawn’s fusion core similar to Halo: CE and Chief escapes in the Infinity while it is in the air he jumps into a hangar similar to Halo 3. Sounds awesome!
Now that I’ve had several hours to think about it, a hog run would work if it was executed properly.
A hog run should be straight-forward: escaping the freaking destruction, preferably time based like in the CE hog run.
It should not be:
‘fight to keep your hog upright’
‘don’t use ramps because you know you’re just going to flip’
‘watch out for random falling debris’
‘wtf pathetic individual enemy gun fire can flip my vehicle?’
‘delayed explosions taking away the ground that was just a few inches forward from me’
‘don’t bother with shortcuts because they’re not finished’
That’s why I found the H3 hog run lacking. Random element and excess linear path/scripting.
The first two should be optional or achievements (like CEA’s achievement for not getting flipped out of the hog).
The next four should never be the case. Never put a shortcut that leads to a dead end unless there’s something hidden there. Don’t put ridiculous obstacles that could splatter us at any moment. Don’t cause us to stop driving at full speed or avoid using the damn ramps that are there as an option. And make the AI work as a team instead of making even 1 Sentinel present a threat.
And most importantly, don’t punish the player if he wants to stick around. If you chose to stay with the Final Grunt, guess what happens? You get insta-killed, by the game. There’s a ‘revert to checkpoint’ option for Christ’s sake (not to mention no further checkpoints at that point)! The game should not try so hard to keep us immersed! Hence, time based is so much better.
I remember doing the Hog Run at the end of CE when I was 10 and being absolutely blown away. It was brilliant and got my adrenaline pumping.
That being said, I won’t ever get that again and I don’t want to. Maybe an energy sword fight with the didact at the end instead haha xD
But I’m not objecting to the notion of a vehicle run anywhere else in the game.
Does nobody realize Requim is still gonna be there after the game ends? Somebody from 343 said that Spartan Ops takes place 4 months after the campaign which means we don’t blow up the planet.
No, something along the lines of either a 1v1 or a really epic and large-scale battle to finish it off.
I want a boss battle like the one at the end of halo 2. that would be sick, because boss battles are awesome. there better be at least one boss in halo 4, or ill be pissed. (no i dont want one like guilty spark in halo 3)
for the love of god, I hope not. there wasn’t anything interesting about them IMO and would rather have a “normal” map, or even a boss fight goes
I love the hog run from CE, I thought it was fantastic. I was a tad bummed that it happened again in Halo 3 just because it had already occurred in CE. I felt they took the easy way out. I really hope there is a huge, extravagant, beautiful ending in Halo 4, and one without hog driving. It’s just not original
1v1 war sphinx boss battle you vs the didact.
i think it’s be cool if they had a warthog run and then when you’re jumping for the objective (a repaired infinity/random ship) then something, say a war sphinx, comes and destroys you and a bunch of stuff including the ship then there is a massive boss battle
