End of Flight Review

Well, I believe I played my last match, unless I can squeeze in some rounds in the morning tomorrow. Here’s my thoughts and opinions, I’ll try to keep it brief. You don’t have to agree with me, these are my preferences.

Customization
Good: I love the organization and features such as favoriting or viewing what you have applied while looking at other options to compare. Coatings are pretty great too, can’t wait to see the selection at launch!

Bad: Why are attachments all grey/metallic and without coating?

Weapons
Good: I love all the weapons we got to play with. They all have a role to fill somewhere and I can’t fully judge some because they might be better at vehicles than personnel.

Bad: The ravager’s charged shot was kind of weak when it worked.

UI
Good: I love the customization options we have.

Bad: Need callsigns on friendlies! Also, want gamertags to appear when looking at a player, like Halo 5. I assume fireteam colors will work in launch, was really not happy that it was not functioning during the flight. Was tough keeping track of my fireteam, visually. Would rather have no outlines on any player, callsigns would be preferred for teammates. Probably should be a customization option for UI to allow people who like outlines choose who they appear on as well as the color, brightness/thickness of outline.

Gameplay:
Good: Love the movement system. Absolutely love the new lockers having visual timers on the object for a respawn of item/weapon/grenade. Equipment is great, even the drop wall!

Bad: Radar does not detect a player moving at standard pace. Enemies seemingly pop out of nowhere because they don’t show up unless they sprint or are shooting, etc. This makes crouching pointless since you don’t show up at full speed standard movement.

Audio
Good: Lots of great sounds, really enjoy how a distant fight sounds.

Bad: Voice lines from spartans. Communication between military personnel needs to be clear and consistent.
I heard some lines that took too long to convey the message. Also hearing some that are not helpful to me, such as “over yonder”, which is the one I actually dislike the most haha.

Maps
Good: Not repetitive themes! Interesting locations, nice layouts that remind me of reach/halo 2/3. Good stuff!

Bad: Not really a ‘bad’, but Recharge is my least favorite. Had to put something here!

Bots
Good: BOTS! This is something everyone has always wanted since CE! Finally!

Bad: Pathing needs work.

Academy
Good: Weapon drills are great, awesome way to get some practice and familiarity in. Also fun to go for 3 stars and break your last record!

Bad: Would be great to bring a friend in and have duo weapon drills. Need grenade drills!

In closing, I loved every minute of this flight and eagerly await the next one! Hope to see y’all there!

Re: Customization - the main thing I thought weird about that was that you can’t select any custom colours, and only unlock special colour variants? That’s kind of a bummer, but I guess it’s in line with the new Battle Pass system & keeping people interested in switching up their armour sets. Hopefully they can add in some sort of full-colour customization per piece to make the customization more in line with old car tuner video games versus this kind of slow unlock of colours.

You should notice all the power weapons are slow in some way to make up for their strength. I think the hammer is great but it could user a boost in base player speed, because it is a melee weapon.

Commando feels great to me, I walk the shots from torso to headshot for perfect kills. When you get an unaware enemy at a distance, it really shines.

You want the sniper to not have long range? Are you high?

I have a list of bad in there with what I think is good. Doesn’t have to match your opinion. Reviews are not just aimed at what someone doesn’t like.

I agree with this assessment!

Aim Assist, PC optimization, Motion Tracker. Those are my big three takeaways that need improvement.

Definitely agree with ya on that “over yonder”.

+1 for removing “Over yonder”, its very distracting and extremely unhelpful :laughing:

In regards to customisation the only thing I dislike is also very minor, and it is the fact that armour coatings are the only way to colourise your spartan.

Yeah, for the more “exotic” color schemes I can definitely see the system producing some really cool looks, but for basic color schemes it seems like they’re gonna put us in a situation that’s “Pay $5 for some two-tone color scheme you would have been able to use with the classic setup”.

I like the way the hammer is personally. You have to really commit to it. So if you see someone coming around the corner you have to begin the “wind up” animation to hit them. I think this intentional to make it different from the sword and shotgun which are instant kills. I think a compromise maybe is to make the wind up optional, like hold RT to wind up, and the release to hit. With a -10% move speed. Or something to that effect. As far as the commando, I could lazer bots with that thing without any trouble with the recoil. And it’s ttk is on par with the battle rifle. An automatic weapon needs to be less precise than it’s precision counterparts.

I thought so too, about the menus anyway.
