Now before someone rips me a new Blam hole, understand that I don’t like emotes for the most part. They were one of the most out of place parts of Doom 2016 in my opinion. A game all about ripping and tearing Demons apart to heavy metal has no reason to add a gangnam style emote…
That all said, What I’m suggesting isn’t stupid dance emotes. I talking about gestures that spartans and soldiers in general would actually do. The First few are obvious, Different types of sitting and standing. Siting Cross legged, Legs stretched out, etc. Standing, really you could have all the stances that are in Halo 5 just with all if not most weapons. This would be a good way to add weapon lowering. Along with those you could have one were the spartan is maintaining and cleaning their weapon(Would be different for different weapons), using a data pad, examining or using a UNSC/Covenant/Forerunner device. Different gestures, Pointing, waving, thumbs up/down, hand shaking, head nodding and shaking, and military sign language. No Dances… Well if they have to it guess they could add the gun spinning that the Silent Drill Platoon do. To use the emotes in game you would press down on the D pad and that would bring up a wheel menu with 6-10 options. You would choose the emotes that go in this wheel menu in the character customization menu.
This type of thing works really well in a game like Sea of Thieves. There’ve been some indications/unsubstantiated rumours that Infinite might have more of an open-world feel, but absolutely nothing concrete.
If it does go open world… sure, would be a nice touch. If not… and even if it did to be honest it’s not something I’d want them to spent a huge amount of resources developing - especially if those resources were at the expense of something else.
At best I file it under the ‘would be nice, not essential’ pile. The cynic in me files it under the ‘don’t bother’ pile.
Personally I don’t care about emotes in matchmaking but for example old school machinimas used to be just spartans standing and talking but with emotes it could bring some life in new videos if people still make them xD.
Please no. We already have teabagging to humiliate opponents along with a pointless winner’s circle. We need less showboating and taunting, not more of it.
Furthermore, what purpose would these serve in a fast paced arena environment?
People use emotes in Overwatch all the time, but Overwatch is also a mostly PvP game that is completely team based (unless you play FFA). The emotes are usually used to demoralize the enemy or do funny things with your team mates (Ana giving everyone candy or D.Va bowing) but trying to do such things in Halo would usually end up with you being dead.
Personally, I don’t MIND it as an idea…but maybe it should be put in the ‘we’ll talk about it in the next meeting’ pile of ideas that usually is forgotten about for a short while.
Like many other features in games (eg., weapon skins), emotes can be a great “condiment” if done properly. So like you suggested, OP, nothing ridiculous like dances you’d see in a club. These are extremely well-trained and disciplined soldiers after all. Sure they each have a personality, but I highly doubt doing something like the Running Man in the field or simulation (as is the case for Halo multiplayer) would be acceptable to any CO.
If you think back though, Halo 4 had a simplified version of emotes and I think they were all very tasteful.
To me, a good place to use emotes would be the winner’s “arrow” we see at the end of every match. The thing with Halo 4’s emotes was that they were solely used for players’ profiles. So while they were good, they were not utilized as much as they could have.
All that said, emotes definitely are like condiments and don’t necessarily make or break a game unless used wildly inappropriately. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress they are making on the game as a whole.
I could see this being a quility of life type of thing that could be put together post launch. As someone said above, it would benefit those who make machinimas or roleplay or simply useful for screenshots. I like the idea, shouldn’t be a priority, but I’d welcome it if it were planned out.
we really don’t need taunts and dances. one thing I really hate about emotes is that they are always some dumb / nonsensical taunt or emote. personally, I think emotes should actually have a purpose, like an emote to tell other players to hold position, to advance, to indicate towards something, or fall back. but no, instead emote are just annoying little dances and gestures that ruin the flow and feel of the game (take EA’s battlefront and Battlefront 2 as examples, they’re supposed to be serious games, do you have any idea how frustrating it is to see a stormtrooper pretending to be a tie-fighter in the middle of combat?!).
Unless the online components of the game are revolutionized to more resemble Destiny or Sea of Thieves than previous Halo games, I don’t think emotes have much of a place. I feel the same way about callous in everything but casual modes; so, in Warzone or social playlists maybe emotes would be fine. Unlike automatic callouts, though, they require a lot more consideration on the control scheme and development end of things.
Like a lot of ideas that seek to be “cherry on top” fun additions, I’d rather see 343 allocate the development resources it would take to make this stuff happen into improving and rounding off the core game as much as they possibly can.

There’s a way to do that in game, but I don’t know it if it was exclusive to Halo 3.

you can weapon lower in every halo, how to do it changes from game to game, and in some you have to be offline
