Embargo Lifted Now, Why Such Little Information?

Generally when an embargo is lifted a virtual flood of information pours out. So we had an embargo on information from the Ms Spring Showcase and 343i but now that is over how much Halo 4 information did we really receive?

To me it just seemed to be built up to more than it was…

I’m happy for 343i to release their game publicly and do interviews but for a game in development approx. 3 years plus over 200+ staff, mostly from AAA studios as 343i keep reminding us, I expected more from the first in game peek.

Why only 3 screen shots? Why only around 2 minutes of actual gameplay footage etc?

In my opinion it just seems crazy 343i did not go balls out.

Some things they could reveal that wouldn’t impact the marketing or story or new gameplay surprises etc.

  1. Melee functions?

  2. Strafe dodging functions?

  3. Vehicle physics?

  4. Maximim players per multiplayer game?

  5. Dedicated servers?

  6. Approx number of multiplayer maps scheduled for release?

  7. Support for objective or MLG playlists?

I’ll stop at 7 but I would have thought an embargo lifting would mean a complete flood of details, screenshots and more…oh well more waiting I suppose.

Did you stop at 7 on purpose (Bungie reference) or was it a coincidence?

We had enough info to start a complete flame war on the forums about “sprint” and
“perks”.

I agree, for a studio that’s had 3 years and is now in Crunch Time I expected more Information on how the Game Functions now, well at least more than a tease like “THIS WILL CHANGE HALO” Look what happened there just Anger and Confusion.I do Hope that we get a Ton of Info during and After E3 and since there is no Beta they need to bring in the info to keep this Hype going other than leaving small bulletin teases.

> We had enough info to start a complete flame war on the forums about “sprint” and

Actually BECAUSE of so little Info, people Speculated and went ape -Yoink-

It seems to me like releasing tons of information about a game pre-release never really helps its population – and I’m talking about lasting pop, not the people who buy it, play for a few months, get bored, and leave.

If 343i reveals too much, they’ll lose the advantage of surprise, put the “wow” factor at risk, and… for what? So that we can be more informed? We’re still going to bicker and fight. Reach – and especially the creation of its Title Update, not that there was any better course of action for 343i to take – created a huge schism in the community, and while Halo 4 itself may bridge that colossal rift, pre-release information won’t.

EDIT: And need I remind us all about how over-hyped Reach was? Hype won’t increase a game’s lasting pop.

Cause if they show a feature that you listed and it changes between now and next info release or launch, people will be like Y U CHANGE!!?!??!

> Did you stop at 7 on purpose (Bungie reference) or was it a coincidence?

Strangely I find myself using 7 more and more…Bungie in my head? Hell yes.

Touché.

Oh no! Why can’t 343i do what Bungie did and tell us EVERYTHING about a game before its released? We pretty much knew about the whole story before Reach was released. Every week we would get more information about the game to the point that we knew all about it when we got it.

> Cause if they show a feature that you listed and it changes between now and next info release or launch, people will be like Y U CHANGE!!?!??!

Bungie had this same “This feature may change or get cut”, Halo 3 had such issues from memory. All a developer has to do us keep the community informed, why not hire a specific staff member to gather details fit for release and keep things up to date. It’s no more than a couple of minutes per department per day and a quick post about it once a week.

However my post below aims to involve the community more with the development process, rather than just receive a game “as is” from the developer and have to wait for patches, title updates and playlist changes that lead to the population drop off before such changes occur to satisfy the community with said game anyhow.

Sooner is better than later post link.

Over-hyped?

I guess I’m the only person who has thoroughly enjoyed each Halo game . . . Halo is based in community. Without people, the game suffers. I would play campaign all day every day, but there isn’t enough population to play the campaign playlist . . .

I haven’t found things overhyped, as I control my own hype levels I suppose. I think with Halo Wars, ODST and Reach that Halo fans weren’t open to change. Again we are seeing this on the forums for Halo 4 now too.

I’m all for some new gameplay mechanics, I don;t want Halo Ce, Halo 2, Halo 3, Reach Classic or Halo CEA again thanks.

True that sir.

Well I’m happy that “little” information was released. I want there to be some surprise when the game comes out. I’m happy that they didn’t show a campaign trailer.
Overall though, they showed off more information than what’s been released/hinted at since E3 combined.

  1. New awesome graphics
  2. BR returns
  3. Sprint stays
  4. Spartan-IVs
  5. Buttplate customization
  6. Music/sound system
  7. Others that I can’t htink of at the moment.

I’m sure they will release more at E3. Hopefully not too much more.

Why would you want to be left in the dark?

Just wow.

> Why would you want to be left in the dark?
> Just wow.

Well let me give you an example. When I bought Skyrim, I had little to no idea on what the game had in it. I’m something of an Elder Scrolls fan and I decided to buy this game. I even went to the midnight launch.
So when I played the game for the first time, I flipped out on all that I could do in it. So when people say that Skyrim was only good because of all of it’s hype, they’re wrong. I literally had almost no idea on what the game was even like.

I want the same to be with Halo 4. I don’t want to know what happens in the first level or how most of the game is. I want it to be a mystery to me so when I play it I will have the fun of discovering it.

Can you just imagine what the fan reactions would have been like for Reach if Jetpacks were never announced, and fans had to discover them when they bought the game?

There’s this thing called E3 coming up in a few months.

Info blowouts tend to happen right around that time.

Crazy, huh?

This weeks bulletin was all about the BR85. I thought we’d get some extra details like in the OP but more waiting again.

Seriously there was nothing in that bulletin that was new information.

From the bulletin it sounds like that we are getting more I formations next month. Press finally got more access and infos. Probably gameinformer will be the first

> From the bulletin it sounds like that we are getting more I formations next month. Press finally got more access and infos. Probably gameinformer will be the first

Where from the bulletins? I want morrrrr lol. If they at least drop one bomb on us (in a positive way), then I will be satisfied for a while.

Just Say Something, but not too much. I don’t want to be totally spoiled. Introduce another ol weapon return. More music idc!
