I don’t think it’s be easy, but I’m with Elites. Brute chieftains in particular are pretty vicious. But still, Elites are pretty professional, Brutes are kind of primitive.
Remember in Halo 2 when the arbiter and a bunch of Elites slaughtered their way through a bunch of Brutes?
Don’t underestimate the Brutes but I still vote for the Elite because I think if an Elite and a Brute (standard class) went head to head without a weapon, the Elite would be stronger and win.
You didn’t specify with or without weapons, so I’m going to have to default to without. Unarmed, it hands-down goes to the brutes. Elites seem to be an equal match for Spartans (Fall of Reach), but Brutes are much much stronger. Master chief would’ve lost to a brute had it not been for his advanced training in hand-to-hand combatives (First Strike). Also, in Contact Harvest, I believe there is a mention of some elites being weary around the ship full of brutes due to their size and strength.

My money is on the Elites! I just like them better.
Brutes are just big dumb apes. Elites are skillful tacticians and would learn from every fight on how to improve in my opinion.

That is actually the only case an Elite would lose against a Brute. Brutes are naturally stronger and bigger, but Elites are disciplined, intelligent, professional and highly strategic warriors that would defeat a Brute in any form of combat except in a hand to hand battle. Especially in a sword battle where Elites are extremely deadly.

In the books? The Brutes. They are portrayed as massive hulking beasts with a desire for blood.
But I assume you meant the games so I went with The Elites.

Elites. They are really smart and tactful.
elites are smarter and undoubtly tougher with a weapon but to say the lease I think a head to head match either way the elites would win. they are similar to spartans as such would have higher win rate

I voted elites. They are quicker and use more varied weapons. Only brute chieftans are good, not those stupid minors. Elites are steadfast and can pull out plasma wristblades and slice a brute. Also, only chieftans have shields, while even elite minors have shields.
