Now we all know Brute are going to be one of the main enemies in Halo Wars 2, but there was something I noticed about how 343 has been developing Elites and even the Brutes.
Does anyone else feel like 343 has turned Elites into the way Brutes used to be, and the Brutes seem to act more like Elites now?
It kinda just dawned on me, I want to know if I am the only one thinking they swapped roles.
Edit:
I added this because they’re are people who don’t see this, so I’m going to give to elites scene and two brute scenes. You make the choice here. from bungie, and from 343.
I’ll add the brutes in later
Bungie: (They show honor and nobility)
Ensemble Studio’s: (The calmness of how elites fight)
343: (343, suddenly they unorganized? and they don’t stand tall like they used to)
How do u mean? Do u mean the way elites look now? Or there attitude?
No, you’re actually right. I’ve brought this up before quite a few times; 343’s Elites are very brutish in nature, and now their Brutes are more intelligent and, well, Elite-like.
You’re not the only one who thinks this.

343 doing everything backwards now…

There’s a lot they’ve done right, though, let’s be fair here.
While elites look more brutish now, most elite chars under 343 were focused on intelligence.

Everything Looks, Actions, THoguhts intelligence etc.

343 is not taking the source material and improving it,I’m ok with brutes beingbintelligent, but not elites just suddenly becoming less honorable and brutish
To be fair it’s really only Atriox who is being built up as the incredibly intelligent one. Decimus still seems to be 100% the classic Brute, and Let 'Volir holds the Honor of a true Elite Shipmaster.
Also, the Arbiter in the first Halo Wars, Ripa 'Moramee, was the first to benefit from the role reversal Atriox has. He was NOT an honorable elite, letting his rage control him and using brutal methods to get objectives done.
I’m not aware of these less honorable, brutish elites other than Ripa, who wasn’t even 343.
I guess there was Parg’Vol or whatever his name was, but he wasn’t around long.
Yeah, this has been something I’ve heard said several times now and I personally don’t see any basis for it. 343’s Elite’s still hold true in almost every way to the Bungie elites in how they behave. the only difference really is their look…
Really the only ways the halo 4/5 elite models act brutish is in the way they talk with their super low base voices in halo 5 (but a voice like that could be suitable for a really old sangheili war master or “sensei” like character) and the way they lumber around everywhere. Other than those two things the elites in halo 4/5 are still same old elites. As for the brutes…have you read Decimus’s Description? Paint him green and have him scream WAAAGH, and you got yourself a Ork from the Warhammer 40K series.

I disagree. Bungie Elites were very much up the Prophets business. 343 takes what Bungie gave, which is the Covenant going kapow and making a realistic story about it. Hence the storm, the elites that follow a dead and dying religion and are desperate as humans and Swords of Sang close in on them. Vice visa though, the Elites that follow the original creed of what the Sangheili were all about. The Arbiters lot really embody the same ideals as Bungie’s Elites did.
On the flip side, Brutes are what brutes always have been. Brutes led by smart, wise and cunning leaders. It’s not that the Brutes have changed, merely we are looking at the leader at the moment over the rest of the species. Take good ol’ tarty boy, he was smart but his underlings were dumb as rocks.
I think the elites need to be toned down a bit. The lumbering, the loud footsteps, the grunting, and the low voices just don’t feel right to me. Elites are about elegance, and I don’t think 343 has captured that feel right recently. The elite in the Blue Team opening cinematic is a perfect example of this. “The Unggoy are rebelling” Grunt “Throw the Unggoy out the airlock!”
Being someone who doesn’t play the main Halo games, you seem to me to be speaking a different language. Unless you’re saying that the Elites in Halo Wars 2 are going to be “brutish” (which there isn’t enough evidence for to assert), I’d say that this thread belongs in a different forum.

Brutes regardless of their intelligence in lore and past halo games would always appear barbaric, which Elites turn to be more minus the Arbiter. Dispite your correct accusation it doesn’t affect the fact that Brutes now appeal more to elites than elites themselves. Brutes are wild, elites are not. Elites are calm and act like the normal rich man, or I guess what you call Behaved. Elites use brains to fight where brutes use their power to fight, granit some can at last other meaning Tartus and the new brute guy is possible, but they are the rare ones. Brutes Evolutionary was taking a different direction than the elites. Elites should and always act like the arbiter but they don’t. The Arbiter himself is the best action of what elites really were behind all Cannon lore.

First and foremost, they appeal more the elites then the elites? That reads as no relevance to your point and implies some great sexual deviancy in the Elites that makes them want to go with brute partners. Moving on…
Elites still are calm and effective warriors, look at Jul’Mdama. There is no evidence your providing of elites acting stupid, they merely have reverted to more primal armor and appearances as they break free of the Covenant. The fragments are also in dissarry. Imagine if today the states of America all become separate countries with separate leaders and economies. Do you think the people would keep acting on completely unchanged? The Elites were part of an interdependent multi-species civilization that collapsed with the leader species just about dying out in weeks. What was you expecting to happen? Them just shrug it off?

it’s a fact that their going against the very honor that the covenant in the firstplace use to uphold. Like they are throwing away their training, that’s something elites would never do.
“343 elites don’t stand tall like they used to”
…what? Have you forgotten the Halo 3 days where bungie gave all Elites hunchbacks so they would be the same height as Spartans so MP would work?
Also I think you are forgetting the most brutal and brutish description of brutes ever came in Halo: Evolutions which was made by 343. 343 made one single smart brute character, which is a great thing because it shows that the entire race aren’t cookie cutter copies of each other
The elites have always made grunts and weird noises but the brutes are definitely being turned into elites
