Elites: Seperatists and Storm

My thread about Elite customization in Halo 5 (which is currently on Page 437 on that one giant–Yoink- Elites in Matchmaking thread, for reference) was locked, but I’m determined to make sure there’s more than one Elite thread on the Guardians forum. Here’s hoping this one is permitted to live.

Now then. There are a large number of people who want to see Thel 'Vadam’s Covenant Seperatists in the games, but the biggest issue with that is telling them apart from Jul 'Mdama’s Storm. So here’s the best things to do.

First off, have the Seperatists speak English, at least around humans. Sangheili is a neat language, but I don’t spreche.

Second, visuals. Let the Storm keep the scaled space redneck race, but bring back the brown, leathery-skinned Elites in Halo 2 & 3. And in place of the Hesduros-inspired armor, they should be clad mainly in Covenant-era armor and keep the original ranking system, giving them a less ceremonial and improvised but more militaristic look. So that would be, preferably in the style of the linked images: Minors, Majors (preferably in red armor again), Ultras, Zealots, and Spec Ops.

The third is to take the available Covenant weapons and distrubite them based on their faction (and leaving some neutral, of course, such as the Plasma Pistol, Energy Sword, and Fuel Rod). This would mean that the Seperatists would be typically be armed with Plasma Rifles, Carbines, Concussion Rifles, and Beam Rifles (the newer models, as the Storm’s are considerably older). The Storm, however, would be mainly using Storm Rifles, Needle Rifles, the older Beam Rifles, and a selection of Promethean weapons for the more fanatical amongst their ranks.

And that’s how you would seperate 'Vadam’s soldiers from Jul 'Mdama’s, if the former made it into the Campaign and if anyone listened to me. I’d be delighted to hear other ideas, as I’m sure somebody has some.

…well. That didn’t go well.

Mostly this. I wan’t the Covie Separatists and Loyalists clearly separated in visualization.
Halo 2 and 3 elite armor would perfectly fit.

Double post.

It would, but personally, I like the idea of armor signifying rank. That’s why I think 343i did pretty well with Anniversary; they followed Bungie’s footsteps with Reach with that idea.

I’m not big on armor associated with rank. Because if you’re a higher rank, you feel almost obliged to wear a higher ranking set. Also, it only works when armor is used in a set. Why would someone wear a Minor helmet and a General torso with Spec Ops shoulders?

I prefer Halo 3’s method: The armor was specialized, so you could choose what you wear based on appearance, not by title.

I’m still salty about 343i for them not explaining in-game why is the covenant still against humanity.

“Salty,” you say? Dare I ask?

He needs some pepper asap and maybe some peprika too!

In actuality I did like and agree with this post despite our differences on our approach on names.

i like your idea at least for the campaign and story based modes, but for multiplayer we should have fully customizable elites with armor pieces we can mix and match with the armors already created for elites between all the games and others that they can introduce just like spartans.

I think that much was implied since everyone wants that.

What? why was the Elite thread locked?! We need Elites and to play as them too

I thank you, and I add that not everybody can agree on everything. But that 's the beauty of conversation.

Storm Elites should be of lighter skin, while Thel’s Elites should be of darker skin.

As for armor, well, we do know that Thel’s Elites wear Halo 3 Armor (Flight and Ascetic were seen in Escalation). So that’ll definitely help a huge difference.
Unless of course, Jul’s Covenant gets an (Forerunner) upgrade. But even if they do, I’m betting they’ll definitely look different either way.

THANKYOU! Rank based armor doesn’t appeal to me at all. I’d love to see some Elite equivalents to the specialized SIV armor instead.

We could have an equivalent to EOD.

An equivalent to CQB.

Recon, Scout, Scout, Pathfinder, Stalker. The designs that could come from this could look awesome, and don’t get me started on the possible names.

And a riflemen armor set that has Needles strapped across it like bullets is an absolute must.

Is this that necessary? Why can’t they just all use the same weapons and keep things simple?

If you want weapon variety for the two factions why don’t we have the Separatists use a mixture or Covie and UNSC weapons and the Remnant can use a mixture of Covie and Promethean weapons?

This way we don’t need to double the size of the Covie sand box in the sake of variety.

“Double”? Oh, dear, no. I just said to seperate what we have. Although my suggestion would add either two new weapons and a reskin, or just three weapons. Not quite doubling.

The reason I suggested this is because a lot of Jul 'Mdama’s tech is outdated; the Beam Rifle and Phantom we’ve seen used by the Storm were first sighted near the beginning of the Human-Covenant War, which were later replaced by… well, most of what we saw in Halo 3. It would make considerably more sense for the Seperatists to still have tech from after Truth’s downfall. And the reason I suggested the Storm’s use of Promethean weapons is because they are simply obsessed with the Didact, to the point where we saw several Elites using Promethean weapons in Spartan Ops.

As for UNSC weapons, I would sooner see the Storm than the Seperatists using them, if at all. They didn’t have a problem with trying to destroy the Infinity with human nukes. But that doesn’t neccesarily mean the Elites are suddenly willing to run into battle with assault rifles; most of them would sooner die before picking up a fully-loaded human weapon. For the most part, I still wouldn’t expect to see them with human weapons. On the other hand, the image of a Jackal in shoddy armor and an old MA37 isn’t too hard to imagine.

You’re probably right, and I might just be talking about adding some variety. But I’m not so sure that’s such a bad thing, really. Especially when the subject is Sangheili variety and not… not… I’ll look at #Destiny in a little bit and give you examples of ideas considerably worse than mine.
