So, we’ve all seen THOSE threads. The ones that flame out 343 and declare Halo 4 a lost cause. What are the reasons? Random weapon spawns. Instant respawns. The list goes on. Rarely, however, do we hear in one of those threads the saddest news of all (to me):
The removal of Elites.
Playable Elites have been around since Halo 2. Even Reach had them, crippled as they were. Entire communities sprung up around them. Clans, some bigger than others, made being an Elite a requirement. Cultures, even, were created.
And now they’re gone.
I’ve been an Elite since I first picked up Halo. My first game was Reach (yes, yes, I know, flame all you want) but I personally like Halo 3 better. Why? There are plenty of reasons, but none bigger than Elites. When I first played Reach, I panicked when I figured out that I couldn’t be an Elite in regular matchmaking, only restricted to a “preferred species” option that made empty promises about how I would be an Elite whenever possible. Wrong. 70% of the time I was a Spartan, even in Invasion Slayer, but that’s a story for another day.
All I’m asking you, 343i, is to please acknowledge that we, the Elite community, exist. Let us know that we are not some tumor on the collective Halo community that no one cares about and everyone wants to get rid of. I’m not asking for you to reverse months of time spent making the game to add Elites in. I’m merely asking maybe 5 minutes of your time in acknowledging us. Say it on NeoGaf. Say it on Waypoint. Say it wherever you feel like saying it. Say that we exist.
Thank you all for your time. Wort wort wort!
