There is a lot of talk about the Elites and why they show up where they are and why they attack the Dawn and so I started thinking about possible reasons and I came up with this…
What if the Elites live on Requiem? If this concept art is Requiem from the outside then it clearly looks like an average planet, but full of Forerunner structures. This would be a great place for a group of Elites and any of their followers to settle down, even if they don’t worship the Forerunner anymore they couldn’t deny the usefulness of their technology.
Then comes this derelict Human ship drifting towards their colony. They send a patrol out and search it only to find a Spartan inside who immediately kills them all. It could have been a misunderstanding or maybe they wanted him dead for a reason, I don’t know. But as all of this is going down the ship is still drifting towards Requiem and they’re in for a shock when the “Planet” begins to shake and open up massive doors which then begin to pull the Dawn inside.
The Elites had no idea they were living on a construct which contains an actual Planet inside nor did they know Forerunner, (or whomever is actually in there), was inside but now that the doors have been open they’re now going to investigate themselves. And this is how the Covenant species we know of end up participating in a new intergalactic war.
