Because Elites are not in normal slayer and have limited customambility then why wasn’t Elite Slayer more advanced. Bungie could have made an entirely new game mode if they thought of this.
What I mean is this. In Elite Slayer (or why stop there Elite CTF/Etc] the different skins you can choose from (by ranking up) would have special abilities and attributes. Which means load outs would no longer exist. It would give higher ranked players a feeling of accomplishment yet because it wouldn’t outweigh normal modes [nor effect them] it wouldn’t change the game.
Also this would not work in Invasion, That may lead to some balance issues. These changes would only effect Elite vs Elite modes (and can be used in customs)

Minor (Starter)- Normal HP and shields. No radar. 2 plasma grenades. Plasma Rifle and Plasma Pistol
Mayor (First unlocked) -5% more HP and Shields. No Radar. 2 Plasma Grenades. Needler only.
Spec Ops- Normal HP and shields. Radar on. Active Camo AA. 1 plasma grenade. Plasma Rifle and Energy Sword
Ranger- 10% more HP and normal shields. Radar. Jet Pack AA. No nades. Plasma Repeater.
Ultra- Double HP and Shields. Radar. No nades. Plasma Rifle. Evade AA.
Zealot- Double HP and Shields. Radar. 2 plasma grenades. Evade. Energy Sword and Plasma Rifle.
General- Double HP and shields. Radar. 2 plasma grenades. Drop Shield. Needle Rifle and Plasma Pistol.
Field Marshall- 2.5x HP and shields. Radar. 2 Plasma Grenades. Drop Shield. Needle Rifle and Energy Sword.
I’d like this to happen, changes of course are needed. However Elite Slayer could have been much better if Bungie thought of this. It’s not like we have 100000 Elite armors to choose from. With such limits they should have had some special game mode and game play.
Since the different Elites here are different in power and weapons they could have done that. Instead of just having normal slayer with covenant weapons.
I can see everyone picking the Field Marshall. Adding that kind of depth is going to make things unbalanced because who in their right mind would pick the other classes?
I wish they had more armor to choose from, that i am not against. They seem rather limited compared to the Spartans.
This is Halo, no one is supposed to get an advantage based on what armor they choose. Elite slayer, imo, is the worst game type in Reach anyway. All people do is throw stickies, armor lock, and use the needler.
I think the OP meant the classes become unlocked the better you do in elite slayer. So everyone starts at the bottom and has to work to get to field marshal. Kinda like a 1-50 ranking, then the higher types get placed together. it would add a sense of accomplishment. however, for less skilled players and even mid level the gameplay would get stale quickly. honestly with the changes made already, i dont think enough people want to play elite slayer to warrant a change like that.

Obviously you haven’t played with skilled Elites. My friends and I, whenever Elite slayer is the game type, it’s always NR. The Needler/PP is absurdly easy to avoid if you aren’t caught off guard. I haven’t yet lost an Elite Slayer game. Also, I use stickies as traps, rather than trying to stick someone. When people chase me, I turn a corner and drop a live sticky. Then the Needler/PP noobs are like: “Gotcha! OH SH-”.

Once again, you cant just pick whatever. You would have to be ranked as a field marshall to get it. EVERYONE begins as a minor and skill would advance you to a higher elite class .
Elite Slayer in practice is one of the worst gametypes in Reach. Plasma nades and armor lock abound and it doesn’t encourage true gun on gun skill.
The Needler, as opposed to the Needler Rifle, is a crutch for weak players. You can send an entire clip at someone before it hits them for the super-combine. I should know, I was top 100 in the world at one point for Needler kills in Halo 3 before I stopped playing that way and improved.
So what happens when a team of 4 chooses the Field Marshal and go up against 4 minors? The minors have better shots and better tactics but can’t beat the Field Marshals but because of their low ranks.
Didn’t think that one through did you. Honestly there are far too many CoD fans on these forums with the stupidest ideas. They make suggestions to change the Halo formula which is exactly what needs to return. That is why Reach failed and only has 50k people online compared to Halo 3s 300k in its final days. Reach messed with the formula and thus Halo took an arrow to the knee.
This would mean that all the high-ranked people would destroy the lower people, because the lower people dont stand a chance, even if they are playing decent.

Clearly you didn’t read all the posts, 4 field marshalls would never go against 4 minors. His idea esentially brings a rank structure for elite slayer. So read before you call people stupid.
So to some it up, incase you didnt read again. EVERYONE is a minor and has to earn the field marshall. As you get higher you NO LONGER play lower ranked people. But gameplay becomes more difficult because everyone would be evenly.matched .
