Elite/Scuf controllers Microsoftapproved cheating?

So…343 has done overall a great job with Halo 5 IMO. But…they claim to have spent a lot of effort with Arena creating that equal playing field where no one has an unfair advantage. Except Microsoft is unashamedly selling Elite controllers and allowing Scuf controllers which would seam to clearly create a huge advantage and make it almost impossible to crack the top ranks with a standard controller. Doesnt it upset anyone that the reason you may be stuck at a certain rank is you start playing against and dying at the hands of players that are essentially cheating with Microsofts money-grubbing stamp of approval? Or is there a significant number of Onyx/Champion players that use standard controllers, and Im way off base and the Elite/Scuf controllers arent a huge advantage?

They aren’t even an advantage. Well at least, not to the extent where any person can pick one up and be an MLG pro. It really is only an advantage if you feel you are more comfortable with a different button layout, because you can change the buttons and with the nice pads, have jump, crouch, and melee without having to move your thumb several times. Personally I like default, and I’m going to stick with that.

What about the short triggers to help you get the first shot quicker?

I use an elite and I don’t even have the short triggers on they just feel weird, don’t really think they’d make much of a difference anyway. Only thing I have is thrust mapped to one of the paddles instead of the X button so I can thrust mid gunfight. I was able to do that before I got the elite controller anyway, now it’s just easier.

Basically, an elite/scuf isn’t going to make a bad player good, but it can make a good player better.

Edit: By good, I mean you are already Onyx at least probably.

Oh. You’re talking about that. There are no “short triggers”, it’s just people abusing the button mapping to map the shoot control to 2 buttons. Which is why the default Xbox controller button mapping system should be the standard.

Nah, the elite comes with “hair trigger” switch you can turn on/off.

I am not sure what you mean by a scuff controller but I did do from a regular controller to an elite controller and there really isn’t an advantage. It’s just more comfortable really. My gameplay didn’t improve all that much if at all really.

It’s just a controller made by another company that also has paddles.

There is a huge potential for an advantage. While the controller doesn’t MAKE you better, it allows for you to be better. The controller allows for a higher skill ceiling.

With paddles, you no longer need to ever pull a thumb off of a thumb stick to reach a face-button. This itself allows for a tremendous advantage over standard controllers that simply can’t do that. In addition to the paddles you have trigger locks which even with set firing rates still allows for a faster first trigger pull which is an advantage, especially in game-modes like SWAT.

But it’s certainly no cheating. It’s just better equipment for a higher price tag.

Its like buying a better pair of football boots. You have the better equipment but that doesnt make you play better. Like others above have mentioned

Cant anyone learn to claw? Free Elite controller. Lol

Theres a pro that goes by SnakeBite and he uses a regular controller.

Claw?

Claw. A way to hold the controller and access every button.

actually the Elite controller DOES help a little, it just helps your own specific playstyle feel better. I still can’t really go in guns blazing with mine, but if i stick with my own passive aggressive style of play, i can react better.

that said, there is a MASSIVE learning curve to the thing. the moment i got it, it took me a good solid week just to get used the the paddles in the back, and even then it took me another week or so to really get the curve of it. so thats about a few weeks to really get full advantage of it. Or it is just how i set my paddles up. I have them set to just abxy so i kept getting frozen between trying ot switch things, like switching weapons i would accidentally hold the y paddle and not the b paddle.(BJ layout). needless to say my rank suffered that month. but i got better at it. and that was with playing for at least 2 hours a day, though 5ish was the norm back then as i was single.

the biggest upside to it, it is WAY comfier!!!

It requies skill to use it effectively, it’s more of a layout preference, like how bumper jumper has an advantage over the default layout in arena if used correctly. It’s nothing major though.

Looks like you’d lose some of that fine motor movement on your left thumbstick due to the weird index finger placement.

In general it looks awkward as hell and imprecise, but yeah, you can press any button without losing control of a thumbstick.

i dont have an “elite” controller i simply have no interest in them but i will teach 1 valuable lesson…

“it’s not cheating,it’s using you resources to your advantage”
