Hey, I’ve just bought the Elite controller, just wondered a few things about it.
How do you have your buttons mapped to the paddles? I’m trying to work out what would be best, and am just using two of the paddles at the moment. Crouching and jumping are straight on there, but what about the other two? Any of you using all 4?
Secondly - the thumbsticks. Is there any advantage to using longer ones? It feels a bit uncomfortable tbh as they’re a bit too high for my liking. I’d imagine that it’d be more precise though.
Lastly, I’m using the trigger stop just for the right trigger as that’s shoot. But it won’t charge things like the plasma caster now, any advice?

1. All of my locations are holding the controller in hand, as if you were playing.
Bottom left y
top left x
bottom right b
Top right a
I use bumper jumper, so that equates to:
Bottom left is switch weapons
Top left is thrusters
bottom right is reload
top right is sprint
2. The taller joysticks give more precision basically. Think of it this way: if you have a foot long Atari style joystick and you move the top an inch compared to a 5 foot tall Atari style joystick and you move the top an inch the taller one will move less. The same concept applies to Xbone joysticks. The taller the stick, the less movement impacts the bottom part of the stick. They’re not for everyone, but I like the right stick to be tall and the left stick small.
3. Open up the Xbox Accessories app and raise the min on your right trigger. I have mine set at 65. It will fix all your shooting problems

> Shadows response- Controller options should be in game and you can even use the regular Xbox settings and go to device to configure your controller layout. My advice on the paddles is start out with one or two until you have it imprinted into your head, it’s much more stressful using all 4 at once when you’re not used to it.

Hope you like the controller, I love it a lot! I try to use it only for competitive play and switch to the original on the more relaxed games to let my elite last longer.
edit:
I thought I bolded and underlined my responses to your questions but it keeps undoing it. I’ll just seperate them then.
If you’re playing bumper jumper, just map left paddle to sprint and right paddle to thrust. Every other mid-combat move is already available to you without taking your thumbs off the sticks. For things you would not do mid-combat (i.e reload), you don’t really need to worry about using the face buttons. Using 2 paddles is easier and more practical than using 4.
Lower your right trigger min to 50 to 65 % to fix lazer and plasma pistol issues.
Taller stick is better for aiming. You may need to change your sensitivity.
Be sure to set your inner and outer dead zones to 0% since you don’t have a flawed / broken controller.
Itz So Frosty from CLG plays Bumper Jumper with no paddles. He is the best player in the world hands down. I took the paddles off once I learned that because I play better without the paddles anyway.
Tall stick for aiming short stick for moving. Trigger locks with adjust for charging and you’re good.

Doesn’t he play claw? If you can play claw an elite controller is a foolish investment lol.

Yea if i am going to get arthritis from something it certainly won’t be from a joystick…lol
I like using 2 paddles, one for jump the other for thrust it was much easier to get used to than when I tried for 4 paddles and I havent found myself wanting more paddle functions
people seriously need to consider the razer wildcat more, its way more intuitive to use the extra triggers (real triggers, where the elite has paddles), it has 2 extra bumpers and most of the buttons are mechanical, and sound options integrated. specially the way they made the trigger bumper area so you never have to move your fingers to use the 3 buttons on each side is pure genius
Note: i also own the elite but never use it, because of the above.
I only use one paddle for jump in the top right spot. I also use Recon. Tallest sticks work best for me as well. I tried to use the mushroom domed ones but I wasn’t getting any better. Went with the tallest ones and it was like holy crap I’m back on point.

Yes, which is exactly why he doesn’t use paddles, lol. I’m not sure why Croup thinks this is a revelation. A lot of pros that claw don’t use or use minimal paddles. Paddles are primarily a replacement for claw grip.
That said, the paddles are hardly the only reason to get the Elite. The hardware and software customization is significant, the build quality is pretty solid (aside from certain parts, unfortunately), and the sticks are smoother and have noticeably more tension than the default. My only problem with it is far as been that my right trigger spring now squeaks incessantly. It’s infuriating.

What kind of customization options does it offer.

button mapping as elite, and is tournament legal. and earlier trigger stops also. pretty much the same. cant change stick lenghs, but they are made of some stronger material like the elite also.
its this one
two things to take note of that might be a issue to some:
- its wired only
- and some have issues adding those sticker grips on. some play without em, i just slapped them on, didnt care if they were straight, feels good.

Very intriguing just looking at it now, so it has two extra bumpers next to the wire?. And are they triggers on the back or some form of button?. How does the button remap work would i use the xbox app or does Razer provide a different means?. I am familiar with Razer with their keyboards i used to own that and the naga but moved to a Roccat instead later on.

I had a Razer Onza for my 360 and it was hands down the best controller I ever had on that generation. Likewise I have a Blackwidow and Naga on my PC.
The wildcat however doesn’t look like it would support the chat cable block from my Astro A50s, so I avoided it.

ya, not gonna get that chat block on there as it has integrated. Controller kicks -Yoink- tho. but A50’s is quite an investment so prolly not worth it for you.

Button mapping is done on the controller, and you can have 2 customised options to switch between, or turn it off and play default.
The 2 extra bumpers next to the wires are programmable, mine are weap switch and reload. the extra triggers/paddles are also programmable and are mechanical so you get that nice satisfying click, as are abxy and the extra bumpers.
Thanks for the replies guys. For the record I play fishstick, so had assigned jump and crouch to the two paddles. I tried using 4 but think it’s probably counter productive as there’s more chance me knocking something by accident mid combat. And I don’t really need tons of stuff, only jump and crouch, so I’ll stick with 2 paddles for now.
It’s definitely worth the investment, I can do a lot more now. It’ll take a few days to get good with it, but already I’m getting used to it. Some of the jumps and shortcuts were almost impossible on fishstick, but are much easier now. Crouch strafing, jump one way dash another etc, all way easier. And being able to aim while jumping is far superior, I can now stay on target all the time, whereas before I’d need to come off the thumbstick for a second, jump, then reacquire my target.
I’m still hitting the wrong buttons, and my KD has definitely taken a hit today. People who I usually play with are doing much better than me now, but I know that if I stick with it I’ll be able to adapt and hopefully even be better than I used to be. I’ve spoken to people who stop using the paddles as they think their reactions were slower, but they don’t get that it can take days to get fluent with a new control scheme.

Just learn one paddle at a time. Take all but one out (maybe jump) and just try to jump at least one in each firefight. Once that’s learned, add another paddle. It’s how many learn
