Elite controller for Halo 5

I was curious for Halo players getting the Elite controller what kind of configurations people were leaning towards especially if they used customizable controllers like Scuf in the past.

I will probably do a bit of experimenting in campaign but am thinking of starting out using a longer right stick and using the bumper-jumper layout with Y and B mapped on the left paddles for switching weapons and reloading.

I never got comfortable using a claw grip so I am really keen on seeing how swapping weapons and boarding vehicles goes without having to take my thumb off the right stick.

I’m definitely getting the elite controller. hopefully on the 27th if I can get to a Gamestop right as they open for the midnight release of halo. I haven’t decided on a button layout yet. I was going to try out the new default and see how it feels. I currently use recon but would like to start using bumper jumper so I don’t have to take my thumbs off the sticks. I just can’t get use to the buttons. so maybe I could map those to the back paddles. I can’t wait to get that controller though!

In my opinion you should put A, B, X, Y on the paddles(Whichever way you want). Definitely need X(Thruster Pack on Bumper Jumper) on the paddles for sure though.
Never move your right thumb off the thumbstick again.

Exactly my thoughts…

it’s so crazy it just might work! lol that’s a good idea. I’ll be trying that. hopefully I can adapt to the new set up relatively quick.

That’s pretty much my plan… although I’m not sure about Y. Why has always been weapon swap even in BJ. It’s gonna take some work breaking that muscle memory.

Im extremelly happy that button mapping will be avaliable to normal controllers also. I cant personally justify myself spending $150.00 for a controller.

Yea, you don’t NEED the Elite controller…

I just want the paddles lol.

depends on your definition of need lol cause as soon as I seen it I was maaaaaaaan I need that like right now! lol

I think the best set up is
jump - LB
thrusters - left paddle
melee - RB
smart scope - right paddle

Anyone feel free to give your input. I’m curious to how people are gonna set up their controller. I’m thinking of only using two paddles as I feel like using more might get confusing in the heat of battle. And also it might be harder to hold the controller with too many on.

not to jack your thread - but does everyone just use your index fingers for the triggers and rb/lb or to you have your index on the buttons and middle fingers on the triggers?

I’ve seen it both ways but I could never get use to shooting with my middle fingers.

Index for both. I don’t use claw either.
Jumping with A has never been a problem, but trying to turn and melee has been troublesome at times.

Index fingers on triggers. My hands are too small to make clawing work/comfortable for me.

The elite controller should be banned from events like scuffs. They are tech modded controllers which break TOS.

I shall name this set-up FOTUS ELITE XD Can’t wait for my Elite Controller!
A - N/A
B - Crouch
X - Action & Reload
Y - Switch Weapons
Left Analog - Movement
Left Analog Click - Sprint
Right Analog Click - Zoom & Ground Pound (HOLD)
Right Analog - Look
Right Trigger - Fire Weapon
Left Trigger - Smart-Link
Left Bumper - Jump & Clamber
Right Bumper - Melee Attack & Spartan Charge
Left Paddle - Grenade
Right Paddle - Thruster Pack

I’ll probably just use my Chief controller (if I get one) as Button mapping is available for it anyway, and my swap will be simple. Clicking left stick will be Thruster.

If possible, I would turn off a,b,x and y. From here I’d map those 4 buttons to the back paddles. This will help to faster retrain muscle memory. I have never used an “elite” controller and I’m a little nervous about how it plays out. Thankfully amazon has an amazing return policy!

If Microsoft is releasing, and charging 150 for, a controller that they could ban your gamertag over, that’s yoinked up. Pretty sure it doesn’t break ToS. Whether it should be banned from events is another question entirely.

I like what MS has done with the controller but there’s no way I am spending 150.00 on a controller.

My thoughts exactly.
