Please 343 let this be your inspiration. I was looking thorough some of Isaac Hannaford’s old work and stumbled upon this. It is so beautiful, I really want armour like this in the game. Also, could you imagine fighting this type of elite as an enemy. You finally break its shields, then as you take aim for its skull, it lifts its gauntlet to protect its now vulnerable head. It would make for some really dynamic combat scenarios.
I’m liking the helmet on that design on that. Sangheili point defense gauntlets would be a cool addition to some of the higher ranking officers, but I’m not sure about it being a physical shield like in that photo. More like this and this. Like you said it could add a cool dynamic to some fights, almost like having a mini boss fight.
He’s got some really great work. I know some people like Halo 3’s Elite Ascetic armor, looks like he’s got a much cooler looking version.
I would really like to see the Elites design go back to a more traditional version. I understand we’re fighting a separatist group that is scavenging but some of them must still have their armor from before. That and the design of the Elites themselves seems off to me. Their mandibles look boneless and weak. Not to mention the top mandibles look like there going to bite their own eyes.
Yeah, elites need awesome armor. The armor in Halo 4 seemed like causal Sangheili attire and not like actual armor.
This is the Sangheili equivalent of a true American.
Its crazy! How every single one of these concepts are better than the armor on Reach and yet didn’t make it into the game.

Reach’s armor was still pretty good and I wouldn’t say every single one of his concepts is better.
Some of these for example.
They’re all pretty good except for the blue one on the right, looks a little to much Gundam/anime style. I could do without the odd protrusions on the back of the blue one on the left and the again for the white one physical shields don’t really suit elites well, seems more like a brute thing. A point defense gauntlet would look better. The purple one is cool but the anti-grav pack could slim down a touch.
I think a lot will agree that the Honor Guard armor is the coolest armor in all of Halo.
I was always fond of the Heretic armor from Halo 2.

Why Bungie, why??!! These concept still look more amazing than most of the armor in Reach.

They are pretty damn awesome, but elite counselors would be almost as good or better.
nice artwork, I just want them to put more focus on elites, but I know they dont want to
Unfortunately a lot of those concepts (as well as designs for Halo Reach Spartan armor and marines) were created by Issac Hannaford the lead concept artist at Bungie. He also designed some of the armor for Halo 3 as well. It would be nice if 343 could channel his designs in their new stuff.
So far, all this armor looks neat! I would certainly equip that as secondary set for my Elite in multiplayer.
Halo Reach’s Elite armor designs were heavily inspired by Traditional Japanese samurai armor. This armor was used when the Covenant was at its strongest, and it depicts a very clean and elegant aesthetic. Halo 4’s Sangheili combat harnesses depict a far fall from grace after the Human-Covenant war, with older, more primitive looking armor bits pieced together.
The concept pieces you’ve brought forth look more like concepts for Halo CE. They simply don’t fit the modern Elite aesthetic. Although they might be cool and interesting to see, I think they would just look out of place.
My favorite designs had to be the Anniversary designs, they looked both modern, cool and they weren’t just separated by colour.
Makes me excited for how the ones in H2A are going to look, especially the Ultra.
I love it.
Hated halo 4’s elites.

From what I have seen I have to say I am not liking the Elite helmets.
that first concept looks the closest to halo 4’s elite armor anyway so I believe they will make good decisions.

Lol no, I wish Halo 4 elites looked like that, but sadly they do not.
I wouldn’t mind if the Sangheili armor had equal grounds with MJOLNIR in terms of grittiness, and less reflective panels.
In fact I’d like the Reach Ascetic elites just because of that helmet alone, those closed off helmets need to influence more basic variants.

How about an Honor Guard Counselor?

I think the armor from 4 looked out of place. I find it odd that for some reason they have updated plasma rifles but are using outdated armor. Not only that but why would they revert to outdated armor when after the war every surviving Sangheili would be returning with they’re current armor. Why would they downgrade?
The newest armor would be in most abundance because when they were at their strongest they’d have the most members, as well as the most efficient manufacturing. Meaning if they were scavenging supplies they’d be more likely to come across the most current equipment.
It would be like if America went under and they were trying to rebuild their former glory. If they were scavenging supplies the least likely things they’d find would be M1 Grands, WWII uniforms and helmet or any of the vehicles from that time. You’d be finding modern equipment because it’s the most abundant.
WOW! That is one beautiful Elite! Do it 343i!
