Firefight was compromised by the introduction of Firefight Arcade. There’s no going back. Firefight is ruined. Get rid of the mode.
Arcade is Firefight now
Check the Firefight population–most Firefight players don’t want a survival mode. If you think Firefight Limited would be any more popular in Halo 4 … as long as there’s an easy Arcade mode, and you know there will be, Limited will be deserted.
Firefight hurts the Halo brand
Remember when a high-kill medal was a rare thing? In Arcade, you can get a dozen a minute. Firefight in ODST captured the “serious fun” of Halo, but no one respects it now. Firefight Arcade gives away the highest moments of Halo in cheap and easy fashion.
Firefight 3.0=resources wasted
Do you want 1/3rd of Halo 4 to be a wasteland of Firefight Arcade-type happy killing? If you think 343 won’t ship an Arcade mode … it’s the highest population in Firefight. That is 1/3rd of the game that is totally different from the skill-based Halo you are trying to buy.
Do you think Firefight can be saved? Will Limited ever pull a population against Arcade mode? Would you rather 343 kill Firefight and come up with something new and uncompromised?
EDIT: Explain to me how you can tweak Firefight 3.0, when Arcade destroyed Limited’s population in Reach.
> Instead of killing a gametype, why not just change it? Personally, I’d be happy with something like ODST’s with matchmaking.
How can 343 change Firefight? If you have an Arcade mode, which is so popular, it will destroy a survival mode’s population. If you don’t include Arcade, you get all the current Arcade fans crying for the mode back in. You can’t really fix the mode, I don’t think.

Arcade in custom games only, on matchmaking there is only survival. Problem solved, both groups are happy.

What is wrong with playing without pressure? Forge and custom Firefight are ways to play for fun. Matchmaking and possibly campaign both have constant pressure.

i think thats what all games are for, having fun? ringing any bells?

What is wrong is, a FPS video game is about skill and precision. If that is pressure to a player, then the player should avoid FPS games.
Look at Battlefield, Call of Duty, Gears. It takes skill to play these game, and it requires paying attention. And these games are popular because they require skill. Halo got easier, with kiddie-pool modes like Firefight Arcade, and lost players.
I personally don’t want to pay $60 for a Firefight mode that is 1/3rd of the game, that is a mode for anxiety prone chillaxers.
Play the campaign on casual if you want to chillax. Firefight Arcade has done a lot to ruin the reputation of Halo, by giving away all the gameplay with such ease. In a perfect world, Halo would go back to a serious game where the fun comes from playing well and feeling a sense of accomplishment … you know, the way Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo ODST worked.

Mashing the R trigger while holding down LB isn’t fun.
OT: I fully agree that Arcade FF is an abomination to what Firefight should be and once was, but eliminating Firefight isn’t the answer. If anything should be eliminated, it should be the cR system. I doubt Arcade FF would be as popular if it didn’t net as much (or even more) cR than more difficult gametypes.

Oh, cause Arcade is the only mode available? Please.
If you care that much, invite friends and do customs, setting the gametype to suit your needs, don’t create a post whining about something that isn’t even a problem.
And what a massive load of nonsense. That above is your opinion. Stop spouting it like it’s fact. Some people clearly DO play FPS to have a good time and relax. The numbers in Arcade are proof enough of that.
Your idea of why people play games is deeply flawed.

How do you take away the chillax factor from Firefight, which is all the mode is now.
Once you have given lazy players the feeling of invincibility, they expect it and think they deserve it. Even if the credit system is removed, if you keep Firefight invincible then you won’t see any difference from Reach. Casual players are addicted to easy gameplay.
And I’m not saying to remove Firefight and not replace it with something else. Firefight was a shameless ripoff of Horde to begin with.
why would you kill it? why not just not have it in matchmaking? or leave it like it is? i like it, i almost always play custom firefight games, so why would you kill it?
Firefight should be like a stealth game.eliminate the wave without them noticing or all hell breaks loose. Using cover to hide and assasinating patroling elites and gametypes would be objective such as eliminate the leader or plant a explosive on the outpost without being detected.anyone think this sounds good?

Maybe you can stop going after me personally, and stick with the point of the thread.
No, players only play Reach for casual FPS. Gears Horde, CoD Survival (or Zombies) … these are difficult modes, and are fun because they give a sense of accomplishment. No one buys these other games and expects them to be easy-casual experiences.
Arcade destroyed the Firefight playlist. It took away all the players from Limited because like some drug, Arcade sucks the life out of players, and makes them expect everything to be easy. It’s a terrible mode for a FPS and is ruining Halo.
Of course this is my opinion. What do you think? It’s an opinion forum.
Firefight in ODST got old fast, but when playing it with friends it would be fun as there were only set rules which meant doing well with friends actually meant something. Now who cares if you do well? I partially agree with the OP, but I would say rather than getting rid of Firefight Arcade, offer a ton more credits of you want to play hard core mode than casual fun mode.
> Instead of killing a gametype, why not just change it? Personally, I’d be happy with something like ODST’s with matchmaking.
Yeah, it is kind of broken in reach with arcade fight, but there is no reason to take it out. A lot of people seem to like FF limited, so that should just come back.
There is no reason to take it out. Just make it better.
Halo is anything you can interpret it to be. If Halo was a true First-Person Shooter, they wouldn’t include Vehicles. They wouldn’t include Third-Person Perspectives like Gears of War and Skyrim do with weapons such as the Ripped-off Machine Gun Turret and the Invasion Cores.
They wouldn’t add a massive bundle of customisable options for players to tweak and make their own. Halo isn’t solidly a First-Person Shooter.
Games can change in genre. Halo has become a Football / Racing / Roleplay / Machinima / Arcade / Jumping / Platform / Community Game. It wasn’t strictly a First-Person Shooter since Race defeated this claim back in CE and Reach allows for much more variety with the return of Race as well as the inclusion of the HaloBall Gametypes.
Team Fortress 2 used to be about Teamwork and Skill. Now its all about Hats, Machinima and Trading.

I wasn’t going after you personaly, I was going after your silly argument. Yeah, your opinion is biased towerds your own feelings. Just because YOU don’t get a snese of reward from Arcade, or fun, or whatever other people do. Just because you feel it is “easy” doesn;t make it that.
And also, your problem seems to be with the fact that only Firefight Arcade is avaiable in Matchmaking, ignoring the fact that every other type of Fireight is still readily available. So, why get rid of Firefight as a whole?
