Electric guitar theme in Halo Infinite?

So me and my mates were talking about the soundtrack for Halo Infinite particularly its style or genre/genres. One thing that came up a lot was the Halo 2 soundtrack and how it incorporates rock and metal into a few of it’s classical, opera sounding tracks. This made us wonder if it would be an interesting idea to hear a piece like Mjolnir Mix in Halo Infinite, the only problem is “Will it fit in a more mysterious, adventure type game?”.

I would love to have some songs by Steve Vai in Infinite. Rock can definitely be incorporated into a game with mystery if it’s done with care. Halo 2 never lost any mystery or anything for me and is still my favorite game and definitely has my favorite soundtrack. So, that’s a good place to look for inspiration.

I think the main lesson from the Halo 2 soundtrack is that exploration of unexpected instruments and musical styles is good. Which is to say that if it happens to be rock and a guitar, then so be it, but I don’t think “Halo 2 rock, Halo 2 good, therefore Halo Infinite rock” should be the reasoning. I’d rather just see the composer explore freely and come out with what they find interesting. It wasn’t the rock that made the Halo 2 soundtrack work. It was creative people who knew what they were doing.

If rock fits in some action scenes in Infinite, and vice versa, then by all means.
If 343i could implement some rock songs to Infinite in a way that it fits the game itself, that would be spot on, actually.

If infinites soundtrack experiments with more instruments that would be great. Having a sound that is exclusive to Infinite but fits in with the rest of the universe should be the main goal.

Not gonna lie should’ve just called this “Soundtrack for Halo Infinite” because having the guitar as the center focus of the discussion limits what can be said greatly.

Cant disagree. Marty O’donnell and Michael Salvatori really made the something unique for Halo 2. Though I wasn’t just specifically talking about Halo 2s music necessarily, as every game up until 4 has included a track where the guitar takes the center stage. It would be nice to see some original work that fits the aesthetic and style of Halo Infinite, whilst making you feel like a badass super soldier.

I would just be nice to hear a track that really makes you feel like a super soldier again. Like On the Prowl from Halo Reach or even In Amber Clad from Halo 2. Those tracks fit there style while achieving the same thing “You’re a Badass Spartan”.

I actually really like some of the new tracks they implemented.

I think some guitar tracks by Joe Satriani, as well as Steve Vai would be awesome. My fave are the songs from Halo CE though, they really made the game seem mysterious to me.

Reclaimer never gets old imo. I love Steve Vai’s contribution to Halo 2, and I would have no issues with more in Halo Infinite.

Will keep that in mind. Thanks

Reclaimer, now that I think about it is probably the best example of a guitar piece for a Halo game. It’s unique, sounds different and doesn’t really break away from the style the game has. A track that achieves something similar in Infinite would be very appreciated. But like tsassi said, let the composer explore freely and come out with what they find interesting.

That would be the best thing they could do in terms of music.

Yes please, the Halo 2 theme song is my favorite version but Halo 3 also has some amazing music. Finish the fight is one of my favorite songs in all of Halo. I would love an in-between of the Halo 2 and Halo 3 music for Infinite with some classics from CE mixed in.

Every Halo Trilogy game incorporates some rock into several parts of its soundtrack. Halo 2 does it a hell of a lot more than the other two, but the other two still do it. If Infinite is trying to invoke feelings from the Halo Trilogy, then I’d be very surprised if it doesn’t have a bit of electric guitar in there somewhere. In fact, based on the Discover Hope trailer, I almost expect that direct remakes of tracks like Rock Anthem for Saving the World will return in Infinite.
