Out of all the “evolutions” in halo 4, the perks are the ones that worry me the most.
Loadouts are fine because they signal an end to the frustration of playing non br/dmr starts.
AAs- eh…some are ok, some are not. (jetpack,P-vision, turret, regen)
The perks take away that base feeling that halo has. When i overload a guy’s shields, I know how long i have before they recharge. Well in halo 4 the guy could be using that faster shield recharge perk. Or he could be using the perk that allows him to pick up more nades, etc. Basically my point is, perks introduce a new breed of “randomness” that will only cause things to be stale. I say, keep the rules of the game constant. None of this “I have this buff” or whatever. I’m sure I’ll get flamed and all that, but this is my opinion.
Not that I really disagree in theory, but if there is a different end result everytime, how can something get stale?
Why do people keep calling them Perks?
It’s getting annoying, it are not Perks.

Then, what are they?
Depends imo. I like ones that don’t effect general combat, like the one where your shields come back a little sooner. Or the one that lets you spawn with an extra clip of ammo. But I’m not a fan of ones that make a huge impact, like the one that lets you pick up fallen grenades, or the one that negates crouch walking.

Let’s not kid ourselves here. Even though they go by a different name, they are most definitely perks. Not perks like CoD, but perks none the less. I’d put them on the level of Battlefield 3 perks (also called specializations).
I agree with the OP, these Specializations are my biggest concern. It was the one thing that I prayed would never be put into a Halo game. But, they aren’t exactly CoD-like perks, so we will see how it turns out. I’m personally not a fan of the Shield Package myself.
They may not be in all playlists…

I’m with you. It wasn’t until yesterday morning when I started to seriously listen to all the forum-goers that rant about how 343 is catering to a more casual crowd. It makes sense to me now. Every week we hear about a new gimmick that Halo 4 has even though Halo never needed it. I understand you have to let the brand grow but I do not equate this with changing it into something completely different, which in my opinion is what is happening.
I’m upset by this, but not too bad. I’ve realized that I won’t get outside of the classic playlist that much.
Ultimately the campaign is the most important element of the game for me and so far I have no complaints.

I understand that with Battlefield 3.
I got out of line, I usually think people think of the CoD Perks.
Sorry.
Well those perks might come in handy in Spartan Ops as the episodes will get harder to complete. Need I remind you of LASO. So yeah you MP players are sorta in your rights to cry in your beers, but Co-Ops looks like they will need every gadget we can get.

Keyword: may. That statement still will not cure anxiety of Halo 4.

No need to apologize. We all get out of line at some point. I’m not a persnal fan of perks in Halo, but not all of them seem to be CoD based, so we’ll see.
Perks? I see no perks. This isn’t Call of Duty, Fallout, or The Elder Scrolls.
I see specializations though. Is that what you are referring?

They are perks; “Specializations” is just another word for perks. Just like Battlefield 3 has “Specializations,” they are most definitely perks, just not on the CoD side of the Perk spectrum.
I’d just like to say that you only have 2 of these specializations compared to Call of Duty’s 3. Also, unlike Call of Duty these “specs” “perks” whatever aren’t rather overpowering.
I mean its already been confirmed that you’d NEED one of them to even pick up grenades off the map or have another rifle as your secondary weapon. I forget what the rest give at the moment, but I do remember them all being fairly balanced.

Shield Package can still be iffy though, so can the one where you retain a radar while scoped. Still, it’s a wait and see process. But people should stop kidding themselves and acting like these aren’t perks. They are perks, but more on the BF3 side of the spectrum.
A couple of them are questionable like the regen specialization, but the majority of them are fine. CoD’s perk system is gameplay altering, these for them most part are not.

Nope they are specializations. Specializations are that in Battlefield as well. Perks are in the games I specified. Just stating reality.
I’m not worried about them to be honest.
Call of Duty had about 7 or 8(counting the Weapon Attachments as they change how the gun originally works) that were all give.
Halo 4 has 2, divided into Tactical perks and Support perks. These are give and take. Want to pick up grenades from your friends? Fine. You can’t start with 2 primary weapons, and vice versa. Wished your ProVision, or whatever AA you are using, lasted a little longer? It can happen, but you’ll be missing out on some stuff.
With this kind of method, and keeping it limited to 1 of each kind, keeps it from making a combination that would otherwise be overpowering, like in Call of Duty.

> I’m kinda with you on it. I’ll be fine with it if they still make you wait as long as everyone else. Again, they come with downsides.
>
> To me, they’re less than BF3. It’s possible with a coordinated squad to have all of perks active. Here, they’re exclusive to just one person, making it that players with friends can find a combination that work off each other to help compete.
