Effect armor skins (idea)

I am sure many of you share my opinion that somebody running around with lightning or a flaming head is a little over the top. My proposal is that instead we have live armor skins. For example armor with a moving pattern like light refracted by water, fire, grass in the breeze, etc. This way you still get your fancy effects but it isn’t just plain ridiculous it was based on a camouflage. It also won’t be as noticeable as flames especially if it isn’t a light source and is dull like the normal armor paints rather than florescent.

Any comments on this ideas, additional proposals, ideas, counter proposals, or arguments?

that would be the spi armor from the ghosts of onyx books.Whatever substance you were in front of it would change pigmentation to match the surrounding area but had troubles with certain things…perhaps effects such as plasma burns glowing on armor…oil leaking on certain parts of it…maybe even another pestilence effect
