Edit: Unidentified ship in E3 demo Infinity

Edit: Although the proportion of the Covenant cruiser to the ship in the background I feel to be way off, the ship is in fact Infinity. The design matches the port ventral side of the ship. /thread

Didn’t notice this at first in the E3 demo (prolly because Cortana’s stealing the moment) but at around 7:03 in, there’s a Covenant cruiser on the left side of the screen opposite the Chief. The big (literal) question that I want to know, is what is behind it. It’s definitely some kind of ship as it is moving quite fast relative to the cruiser.

Covenant cruiser classes are between 300-1,800 meters in length, so sayeth the Halo Encyclopedia. At first, I wondered if this was Infinity which has been described to us at about 3 miles long, which puts it in at about 4,828 meters. Putting that into perspective, Covenant assault and super carriers are still larger at about 5,350 meters.

Taking that all into account, that massive vessel cannot be Infinity. I couldn’t find any architecture of it that matches any part of that ship. It clearly is not Covenant either as it lacks their unique military designs. It looks like it could be Forerunner in origin. A Fortress perhaps? The old Fortress guarding the San 'Shyuum quarantine zone was 50km in length, and the one that assaulted and destroyed a Halo at the Forerunner Capital was estimated to be twice that size…

Could an even deadlier fleet than what was discovered by Spirit of Fire be kept here?

The UNSC Infinity.

EDIT:
The Infinity is 3.5 miles long. Therefore, a small Covenant ship is dwarfed by it, even though the smallest of Covenant battle ships are usually similar sizes to common UNSC ship classes. It is the Infinity, and it doesn’t look at all Forerunner.

I’m pretty sure that Covenant Cruiser is actually a shadow.

I think it’s the UNSC Infinity. It’s quite possible that the cruiser is a CRS-class Light Cruiser, which is significantly smaller than the main battle cruiser. It is unknown exactly what the CRS looks like, but so far all the Covenant cruiser class ships have looked more or less the same with different sizes.

> I’m pretty sure that Covenant Cruiser is actually a shadow.

Doesn’t appear to be a shadow. You can make out some lighting on the cruiser. Either reflected, or from the ship itself. I thought it may have been a shadow at first as well, but if it were that, the shape of the shadow would conform and distort along the geometry of the ship in the background, which it does not.

It’s most definitely not a shadow.

It also does not appear to be firing at the Infinity. Friendly Elites in my opinion.

I noticed that Covie Cruiser to OP. At first I thought it was just a shadow but now I know it’s not. If it is a Covenant Cruiser (Which it is) then it is WAY to small compared to the Infinity.

Even considering infinitys size, that cruiser is wayyy too small. Guess it could be a forerunner ship but…can’t really tell.

The Covenant ship is most definitely a shadow, as there is no detail on it besides the various lines between the armor plating on the Infinity. The other key factor is it’s color. It is dark shade of gray. The Infinity is another, lighter shade of gray. Shadows are simply a darker shade of color than the surface they are projected onto. Therefore, the Covenant ship seen is indeed a shadow.

Did you not read what AdmlAckbar said? If it were a shadow, the shape of it would conform and distort along the geometry of the Infinity as it moved. Also, there was a bright beam of sunlight near the two ships, so obviously that small cruiser is going to have less detail and color because of the intense sunlight.

To all saying that the cruiser is way too small:

It’s actually not. The CRS Light Cruiser is about the same size as the one shown in the video. It most likely looks very similar to the rest of the cruisers that we know and love.

How do we know the Covenant haven’t started making smaller, more agile cruisers in the 5 years that have passed? It’s possible they felt the need for something between a Phantom and a Corvette (or whatever the smallest cruiser was) and built something new, which is what is pictured.

what are you guys talking about? Can somebody give me a link so I can see the unkown ship.

I can possibly see the need for different ship designs. Thing is, Bungie introduced the corvette in Reach as that smaller ship class. It’s small and capable, but easily outmatched by cruiser classes. But even that were true than the cruiser in the E3 demo would prolly be between probably 50-150m long at a guess.

Even at 3.5 miles long, it makes Infinity only a little bit larger than the Covenant carrier classes. If you want to see what a CCS-class cruiser looks like up against a Covenant carrier, just boot up Halo 3 and watch the into cutscene to The Ark. That will give some good reference to what I’m trying to describe. Every thing else taken in, and it makes the size differences between the two ships grossly in error it would seem.

they have said that small ship is a corvet

Yes, but in the beginning of Infinite arriving there you see it passes some certain barrier and is damaged.

Perhaps the same happened to the Covenant…

Halo 4 Covenant cruiser

Did they?
