Wraith.
A monstrous vehicle capable of monstrous killing sprees when used correctly.
(FOR NEW PLAYERS)
Where to find it:
- If your on big team slayer, on vortex AND on the red team make a dash for the ghost and zoom up the hill on your right. You should see the beautiful monster waiting for you to hop in. If on blue team, or red team after the initial spawn, wait at this location for it to respawn.
- If on longbow or vortex in dominion head to either base A or C, fortify it and go to the nearby vehicle pads and hop in. If on exile in dominion head to base C and fortify it. Careful though as many wraith lovers will fight frantically for C as it is the only wraith for exile!
TIPS:
-
The perks wheelman and sensor are a MUST! Wheelman will help reduce stun time from an EMP and sensor will give you greater battlefield awareness.
-
Don’t always use the blue balls of death to kill people, the wraith may be fat but it can move! Many players won’t expect you to boost-charge them and it can often save you from being boarded. Boosting can also help get you out of tight spots and even help you dodge EMP plasma bursts.
-BEWARE!, HOWEVER careless use of boosting. It can just as easily get you into bad situations as it can get you out of bad ones, and is a magnet for sticky throws. I always like to save my boosts for when they are really necessary, though if the action is far away feel free to use it to help get you back into the action. Ultimately keep an eye on the boost-meter always and manage your boost-meter well. -
Don’ get too far or too close to the enemy. The wraith functions best as a mid-range vehicle. Too far and it becomes too hard to hit anything but careless snipers with the blue balls and too close you will get overrun by infantry.
-
Timing with the blue balls is very important. Often players will jump as they try to board you. Resist the adrenalin-fueled reaction to just spam the blue balls. Release the ball just as he passes the top of his jump right at the spot that he is going to land on.
-Jet pack people can be particularly deadly for wraiths, especially if you are in a rather confined area. Always boost in some direction, whether that be away from them or UNDERNEATH them, depends on the situation. Sometimes you can get a splatter going underneath them if you time the boost right. BEWARE however as skilled players will often have a plamsa overcharge ready and if you don’t spot him soon enough it can be game over once he has jet-packed! Sometimes if your lucky there might be a tall rock or wall next to you that you can shoot at to kill the jet-packer. This applies on the ground with infantry and vehicles too. The splash damage of the blue balls is very high. -
On the note of splash damage, you can use it to save yourself if your boarded from the FRONT. As fast as you can find a wall and get pretty close to it (BUT NOT POINT BLANK!) and fire to kill the boarder with the splash damage. The closer you are the higher the chance to kill him, but also the more damage you do to the wraith and yourself. If your nowhere near a wall but have plenty of team-mates near you, STAY STILL!!! They can DMR him off, or beat him off the vehicle!
-If your boarded from behind, try to blow yourself up as soon as you can so that you can take that rascal down with you!!!
-Always try to hit vehicles as they come towards you if you can, rather than as they drive away. Don’t let them get too close (to avoid splash damage from your own shot) especially mongooses and ghosts. If you anticipate a ghost/mongoose boarding, RAMMING them can also work. The wraith is a monster as it not only splatters people but other vehicles too! -
A very effective strategy with the wraith is to strafe around a cover point (large rocks usually work well and are on all the maps). The cover helps protect you from plasma bursts and other nasty things (splasers, sniper/binary rifles particularly) whilst allowing you to peek around the edges and fire off some blue balls of death!
-On a similar note, strafing can often save you from rockets and fuel rod cannons, however beware the incineration cannon globules as they travel very fast and the wraith is a very fat target! Always steer clear from these guys and let your infantry finish them off, or shoot at them from a distance (but even that is risky when they have the cannon). -
Speaking of infantry, your infantry are very important for your survival! Don’t go right in with them, as not only will things be too chaotic but you will likely splatter them and get booted. Stay at a medium distance and support them by taking out hogs, ghosts, other wraiths etc. as soon and best as you can.
-
Use the long flight time of the blue ball to your advantage! Often you can take a shot from behind cover and the enemy player or vehicle will walk/drive right into it! This is particularly useful in wraith-on-wraith fights, as it can allow you to get that all important first-strike. However don’t feel safe after you get that first shot. The excellent strafing capabilities of the wraith and long flight times of the blue balls can make wraith duels very unpredictable (AND FUN!).
-
Beware of being caught out in the open by a skilled warthog crew, they can finish you off in 15-20 seconds when that chaingun is hitting its mark! Also beware of warthogs looping around you. If your back is turned when the looping begins, never loop with them! Boost to the safety of a rock or a more confined area. The clever crews won’t follow you! The not so clever crews… DOUBLE KILL!
-
Skilled banshee pilots are deadly against wraiths, they will pick at you like a vulture until your on fire then finish you off with one final green globule of awesomeness! It is often best to hop out, jet pack up with a charged plasma pistol, board them, kill them, hop out of the banshee and either destroy it or allow your friends to fly it. Or if you have a splaser or sniper, hop out, kill them and resume. If the banshee pilot is not so good, then you can probably time your blue ball well enough so that you can take him out.
I hope this is of help to some players!
